I'd be VERY, VERY grateful if anybody could translate the following into
English.

Die alte "B�ntingsche Chronik" berichtet dar�ber:

�Sein Vater, Graf Gebhardt der Andere, ist 1075 in der Schlacht bei
Negelstedt (bekannt als die Schlacht bei Homburg an der Unstrut) gegen
Kaiser Heinrich dem vierden gedienet, in der Schlacht umbkommen. Wenig
Tage f�r derselben Schlacht ist Hertzog Lutther zu Lutterloh im
L�neburgischen Lande nicht weit von der Stadt Zelle in diese Welt
geboren. Daher der Ort hernach von ihm befreit und aller Beschwerden
entnommen worden. Diese Freiheit hat bei Regierung Herzog Ernsten (des
Bekenners) zu L�neburg ein Amtmann aufheben und den Bauern dienstbar
machen wollen ...�

Es existierte in Lutterloh tats�chlich der abgabefreie Behrensche Hof.
Das w�rde diese These unterst�tzen. Die Geschichtsforscher nehmen aber
an, dass ein unehelicher Sohn des Kaisers Lothar III. Besitzer des Hofes
gewesen ist.

Before a German speaker happens along, have you tried Babelfish? By no means
perfect but it may be helpful.

Thanks - I tried that but the results were bizarre.

I do find Babelfish useful if I have to write to somebody in a foreign
language. I write simple declarative sentences - translate and then
translate the result back into English. If it still intelligible at this
point I figure it is understandable in the foreign language.

near
Negelstedt ( known as the battle of Homburg on river Unstrut) against
Emperor Heinrich the fourth.

Indeed in Lutterloh there was the 'Behrensche Hof' that hat not to pay
taxes.
This would confirm this thesis. But historians assume, that a illegimate son
of emperor Lothar III. owned that estate.

In that time an "Amtmann" could better be compared with an oldtime
Sheriff - think of the Sheriff from Nothingham or maybe a henchman
