My name is Dan Haglund, from Moorhead, Minnesota, and I'm looking for information about my
great-great-great grandparents, Joannes Heindrich (also Jois Henricus, John Henry) Hesse and Anna Elizabeth
Fonkel.
Joannes was born June 3, 1797, in Welschennest, Olpe, Arnsberg, Westphalia, Germany. His first wife, Maria
Catherine Storch, bore him three children before dying on September 20, 1831.
The children were: Nicholas Hesse, born October 14, 1825, in Welschennest; Heindrich Hesse, born February
8, 1827, in Welschennest; and Jois Peter Hesse, born May 5, 1829, in Welschennest.
Joannes then married Anna in 1832. Anna was born August 23, 1803, in Welschennest, and died January
20, 1884, in Carver County, Minnesota. She bore him six children, including my great-great grandfather John E.
Hesse, born November 19, 1847, near Spring Prairie, Wisconsin. John E. died June 9, 1914, in Watkins,
Meeker County, Minnesota.
The other five children were:
1. Joannes Anton Hesse, born February 8, 1833, in Welschennest; died June 4, 1892, Carver County,
Minnesota.
2. Joseph Hesse, born 1834 and died 1837 in Welschennest.
3. Michael Hesse, born May 14, 1837, in Welschennest -- death date unknown.
4. Adolph Hesse, born April 29, 1840, in Welschennest; died January 2, 1925, Chaska, Carver County,
Minnesota.
5. Maria Catherine Hesse (Mrs. Bernard Kaufhold), born August 19, 1844, in Welschennest; died May 22,
1929, United States.

Any ancestry or descendancy information would be wonderful. Any relatives out there? Any leads on how to
further track this branch of my ancestry would also be helpful.

Best regards,

Dan Haglund

Dan: Hello from a cousin. I am Mary Ellen Haskamp Hurley, and Adolph Hesse was by GGrandfather. His daughter,Mary Catherine Hesse was my paternal grandmother who married. I have lots of info on descendents, but only that Heinricus Hesse was the father of Joannes Heindrich.
I haven't done genealogy since the late 1990's to 2004. Finally I am able to resume the research. First thing is to organize the many notes that are all in piles. Most of my research has been at the LDS Family History Center. We are lucky to have a very good one here in Stevensville MT.
My dad, William Adolph Haskamp was an only child of Mary Catherine and Henry John Lambert Haskamp. He was born in St. Paul and lived in Chaska and Shakopee and then in St. Paul. I lived there until I got married, spent several years in Racine and Kenosha WI and then in 1981, we moved to western Montana.
Would love to share info.
Mary Haskamp Hurley
