Tanguay lists the parents of Pierre as Guillaume Roussel and Nicole
Filiatrault. PRDH lists Pierre's parents as Pierre Rousset and
Catherine Rene. Can anyone explain why the difference?

The marriage record is lost and there is no other record giving
the parents of Pierre.

Tanguay made a guess with another ROUSSET, the more likey I would say
if he doesn't see the ROUSSEL below.

PRDH used the fact that the immigrant Pierre ROUSSET dit ST-PIERRE
(see Jetté) is probably the same as Pierre ROUSSEL dit ST-PIERRE (and
the name is more likely ROUSSEL). No trace of his first spouse after
the 1st marriage.

And the parents of Catherine are Jean MORAND and Catherine VALADE.

By the way, it would be interesting to post any difference between
PRDH and Tanguay, just to see how much are because the database of
PRDH is more complete (i.e. Tanguay skipped some records), or any
difference between PRDH and Jette I have not listed in my books.

Hi Sue;
My late mother did an exhaustive research on this side of the Russell/Roussel Family. According to her, the Tanguay info is the correct one. However, the university (PRDH) tells another story.
My mom was a very meticulous and thorough individual both personally and professionally. I trust her records. I believe that those PRDH records were incorrectly entered into the database by students.

Maurice above would be the one to go to for more information or perhaps contact PRDH and find out for sure. I am sure that those of us from this lineage would like a difinitive answer.
Cheers!
MR

MORAND, Marie Catherine

My evidences : same dit name, he is constantly a "charretier" in the
1730s (and in 1757 when he is near Montreal).

I see no reason to link him to Guillaume Roussel dit SANSOUCY, who
had no son Pierre.

Keep in mind that (1) beginners can make big mistakes and (2) every
body was a beginner at some time. I remember I had some Native
ancestors, then no one, then again, because i searched my own
family tree a few times...
