Hello,

My name is Brian Gosling and I live in Ipswich Suffolk, I have been
accumulating information about my family name, but have had more success
with my wife's side of the family - Allam (Romford), Barwood (Saffron
Walden) Jenno (Essex).

My relatives seemingly know little of their grandparents but I have found
out that my great grandfather originated from Braintree Essex with his
family possibly from either Bungay/Beccles in Suffolk.

At my wedding some years ago in 1980 my wife's great aunt Dorothy said she
had a cousin with a Tom Gosling in Bungay.

I would be grateful for some pointers, my tree at the moment has some 350
entries but as I say is lacking in my name.

I have spent several hours roaming churchyards in the Bungay & Beccles area
assuming they would be full of Goslings, it could never be that easy to find
a starting point.

Since my childhood, all known Aunts & Uncles have lived in the Ipswich area,

My father Leonard Alfred Gosling
Born March 6 1927

My G father Herbert Edward Gosling Painter & Decorator
Born October 4 1893
Died January 15 1955

My GG father Herbert Gosling Painter & Decorator
with
own
business in Braintree Essex.

Although I have details of all Goslings from my grandfather there is not any
other information available to me previous to him.
As I started adding in my Mothers side and also my Wife's side they have
almost double the info that I have, with links to the founder of Debenhams
retail store, 5th Duke of St Albans and the Gate Keeper of Tootingbeck
Asylum. My wife's family Allam has links from 1795 with an array of
Crests,Shields and mottoes etc..
My Mothers name Kirkup originally from Co Durham, went over to Australia
earlier this century, she showed me a copy of a solicitors letter detailing
claimants ( 40 people applied for a share) for an Uncle over his estate, she
had read the letter as him being a Glazier, I read more closely and found it
to be "Grazer" - a sheepfarmer.

So I am now even keener to trace further into our name. If you are able to
assist me in any way or share any contacts then I would be very grateful.
I intend to travel up to London in the spring and check as many records as I
can, if you wish I will keep a look out for anything which may help you.

Thanks for your time,

Regards Brian Gosling.

wow what a coincidence! I have goslings in the lake next to my house.
Well actually they already have grown up so you can't tell them from
thier parents. AND I use WS_FTP from IPswitch software! We MUST be
related!
