Subject: SOG Bookshop goes online
SOG Bookshop goes online - now you can order British genealogy
publications directly over the Internet.

From September 15, 1998 the Bookshop of the Society of Genealogists in
London has opened its online branch that enables anyone with Internet
access to place orders directly. The main features of this new service
are:

- the widest range of British genealogy publications anywhere are held
in stock for immediate delivery.

- nearly 2,000 different books, booklets, leaflets, microfiche, computer
programs and sundry items are on the SoG Bookshop web site.

- the web site shows information on the title, author, contents, a
thumbnail illustration, and price. All titles are organised in over 100
categories by subject matter and area.

- any item ordered will be delivered by post within the UK or by airmail
for destinations outside the UK.

- items may be ordered directly over the Internet using secure
transactions. You will need a 32 bit operating system (typically Windows
95) and a web browser that supports Java applets (Netscape
Navigator/Communicator or MS Internet Explorer). All your personal
details are sent using 128 bit encryption, and the details are not held
on any server in unencrypted form.

- orders can be accepted with payment by Visa, Mastercard, American
Express and Switch cards.

- the Bookshop site has taken some time to develop and will be
continually growing. Reviews and links to other sites with further
information on the items offered will be added so that you have the
maximum information before placing an order.

- members of the SoG will be able to place orders for the Society's own
publications at the usual members' discount.

To see the SoG bookshop, point your browser to
http://www.sog.org.uk/bookshop/index.html

If your operating system/browser does not let you order online, you may
still place orders by direct email to the SoG, although these will not
be encrypted in transit. The e-mail address for orders is
<sa...@sog.org.uk>

(The SoG bookshop site has been developed using Actinic Catalog version
2.0 software, configured and deployed on behalf of the SoG by Drake
Software Associates.)
