I've found a newspaper report in the Manchester Guardian 17 May 1886:
"Manchester Spring Assizes - Crown Court, Saturday
Samuel BOOTH, a middle-aged man, and employed as a labourer at Tottington,
was also charged with assaulting a girl of tender years (6 years and 7
months) on Saturday May 8 at Tottington. Mr Devey prosecuted, and Mr Jordan,
at the request of the Judge, defended the prisoner. The jury returned a
verdict of not guilty."
I am anxious to find out if this is my missing Samuel BOOTH, missing since
the 1881 census:
Dwelling: Cottage, Quarlton, Lancashire, England
PRO Ref RG11/3831/62/2
Samuel BOOTH M 24 M Tottington, Lancashire, England
Rel: Head Occ: Finisher At A Bleach Works
Betty BOOTH M 23 F Tottington, Lancashire, England

Mary Elizabeth BOOTH 6 F Wauves, Lancashire, England
Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar
James BOOTH 3 M Lancashire, England
Rel: Son
Betty, and her children were living with her parents at the 1891 census and
later. No sign has been seen of Samuel, although it is believed that he did
not die.
Would someone be able to tell me where I can access the Assizes records to
find any further details on the case please?
Thanks,
