ROARK - John Plummer
Ray Hayes
My great great grandfather John Plummer Roark was born in Wexford about
1835, and arrived in Victoria in 1861 with his new bride Francis Emily
(Fanny) nee Bolton.
They had five children from 1862 to 1868, the youngest being twin girls
who died as infants.
Fanny died young in 1870, leaving three children aged 8, 5 and 3. I have
not been able to locate a death or subsequent marriage for John Roark,
checking Rourke, O'Rourke etc variants.
John was a miner according to the birth certificates of his older
children, and a whip maker according to the birth certificates of the
younger ones, born at Carlilse Street West, St Kilda.
His two sons married Deuchar sisters from the Scarsdale area, and were
later stock and share brokers. Alexander Deuchar was a baker in the
area, and John may have mined in that area but I haven't located him in
any directories.
If anyone comes across any reference to a subsequent marriage and/or
death or any other details for John Plummer Roark I would appreciate
contact.
