I did the same thing - lightened and enlarged the image - and I must say
that the closer I look the more I believe that the pic has been painted
over - the detail in the turned table leg seems to have been rather
carelessly painted on - and the detail in the dress has clearly been
enhanced by painting - the highlights and shadows are inconsistant with
the laws of physics and light??

The right hand on the cheek has been redrawn - hence its unusual shape.

may I suggest that if it is a photo - then it was painted over to retain
detail that may have been fading or lacking - an early photo restoration
maybe?
