Hi Members,

Just some information re Ancestry.com.

GENEALOGY website Ancestry.com has agreed to be acquired by a group led
by European private equity firm Permira Funds in a cash deal valued at
about $US1.6 billion ($A1.56 billion).

Hopefully that won't influence costs etc.

So what happens now to everybodies families trees, and where will the
information be stored, and who will be able to access those trees ?
Will this new company, for example, onsell people's private details, to
marketing companies or DNA companies ?

And what about the Rootsweb mailing lists...what is going to happen with
those ?

And what about all the free information that people have shared online ?

the same team will be running it. It is a bit like buying leased premises;

Hi, as has been shown to this list before:

Place a "> and a space" before the start of the url "and a space and <" at
the end of the url will stop it breaking up.
for example: >

even if it word wraps multiple times.

I am using nntp, and a quote of about 3 lines that was far wider than 80
characters, prevented a post from going. That doesn't seem to apply to
URLs, but I let it do its own thing, just in case.

As a follow-up, another page says that the price represents $32 a share,
and 41% above the Stock Exchange price, but two investors have taken Ancestry
to court, claiming that the price doesn't represent the real worth of the
shares, and in effect they are being sold out for a song. I dobn't know
where they would find a higher price?
