Greetings! We are the public-service association of Ukrainian art
workers "LELEKA". Our center is found in the city of Ternopil. Our
association exists only through its own initiative and is not supported
by the Ukrainian governmental structures.
We are addressing this letter to all persons, and groups interested in
Ukrainian art work, including, but not restricted to: individual persons,
assemblages, and small ventures abroad, religious congregations, museums, art
galleries, universities and other educational institutions, tourist firms,
collectors, and also people involved in the souvenir business.
Our association has the following goals:
1. Popularize and spread truthful information about Ukraine through
the medium of art.
2. Acquaint all people of different countries with rare and
interesting types of Ukrainian decorative art.
3. Establish contacts with the persons and organizations interested
in the organization of exhibitions of works of Ukrainian artists.
4. Establish contacts of long duration with collectors collecting
decorative art works.
5. Offer tourists visiting Ukraine art works and souvenirs made by
experienced and skilled painters.
6. Seek and keep contacts with church organizations to regenerate
people spirituality through art.
7. Conclude transactions of cooperation, make contacts with
associations organizations, individual persons, and trade
organizations interested in acquiring of souvenirs and other art
works for the purpose of introducing and distributing these works
in their countries.
8. In the future, create joint teaching and art centers, or organize
decorative and applied art courses (correspondence). (It is
currently possible to teach decorative egg painting this way.)
If you are interested in working jointly with the public-service
association "LELEKA" on any of the above-mentioned points, or have suggestions
for other types of collaborations, we are most interested in hearing from
you! In addition, if you have friends or acquaintances who are interested in
such cooperative ventures, we will be extremely grateful to you, if you pass
along this information to them. We would also be appreciative of any
information you send us concerning possible interested parties whom we
ourselves can contact -- i.e. contact information for assemblages, small
ventures, cultural and religious centers, collectors, tourist firms, trade
organizations, concerned businessmen, etc.
Below we have enumerated some types of art workers' current projects:
- Pysankarstvo (decorative egg painting - a purely national art)
- Batik (ancient Javanese method of designing in color on fabrics by
waxing parts not to be dyed)
- Art weaving
- Art embroidery (ornamental needlework)
- Art made using cut-out pieces of colored paper (khudozhnye
vytynannya).
- Painting on glass
- Making of gerdans (decorative beads)
- Wood carving
- Making of curtains for the stages of theatres, museums (weaving)
- Making of Ukrainian national costumes of all regions of Ukraine
- Making of church attributics.

1. Propahuvaty i rozpovsyudzhuvaty pravdyvu informaciyu pro Ukrayinu
mystec'kymy zasobamy.
2. Oznajomlyuvaty vsikh lyudej, riznykh krayin z ridkisnymy i cikavymy
vydamy Ukrayins'koho dekoratyvnoho mystectva.
3. Nalahodzhuvaty zv'yazky z osobamy i orhanizaciyamy yaki zacikavleni
v orhaniziciyi vystavok vyrobiv Ukrayins'kykh mytciv.
4. Vstanovlyuvaty dovhotryvali kontakty z kolekcioneramy yaki
kolekcionuyut' vytvory dekoratyvnoho mystectva.
5. Proponuvaty turystam, shcho vidviduyut' Ukrayinu khudozhni vyroby i
suveniry, vyhotovleni dosvidchenymy majsramy-khudozhnykamy.
6. Shukaty i pidtrymuvaty zv'yazky z cerkovnymy orhanizaciyamy dlya
vidrodzhennya dukhovnosti narodu, zaluchayuchy mystectvo.
7. Ukladaty uhody pro spivpracyu, nalahodzhuvaty zv'yazky
z tovarystvamy, orhanizaciyamy, konkretnymy osobamy, torhovymy orhanizaciyamy,
shcho zacikavleni v prydbanni suvenirnykh i inshykh khudozhnikh vyrobiv
z metoyu yikh rozpovsyudzhennya v svoyikh krayinakh.
8. V majbutn'omu stvoryuvaty spil'ni navchal'no-mystec'ki centry, chy
orhanizovuvaty navchannya (za lystuvannyam) narodnomu dekoratyvno-prykladnomu
mystectvu (vzhe zaraz mozhlyvo provodyty robotu po navchannyu pysankarstvu).
