Aynur Okay to present exciting show

Aynur Okay was born in Ankara in 1943. In addition to her exhibits in
Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, her show in Germany last spring generated
great enthusiasm.

Okay's paintings look at man from a phantasmagorical perspective that
reveals the depth of the artist's perception. Her work casts an ironic
glance on man and the universe.

5-24.

Ahmet Yesil

Ahmet Yesil was born in Mersin in 1954. He developed an interest in the
arts with the encouragement of Nuri Abac and Ilhan Cevik, presenting
over 30 exhibitions and winning more than 10 awards.

Yesil's first paintings focused on man and his problems, but he later
developed his own perspective. Strings and ropes are recurrent motifs
in his paintings, and his colors are chosen for their complementarity
with his themes.

The artist's paintings may be seen at the Opera Sanat Galerisi from
Oct. 4-24.

Teoman Sudor

Teoman Sudor's paintings depict the eternal aspects of man and nature.
The main characteristic of his most recent work is the changing
relationship between man and nature since creation. With the wisdom of
an old philosopher, he reveals the depths of human nature, showing man
in his freedom and immortality.

Sudor's paintings may be seen between Oct. 6-28 at the Is Bankasi
Parmakkapi Sanat Galerisi.

Ferruh Basaga's latest work

The Ayse and Ercumend Kalmik Foundation will host exhibitions of four
abstract artists this year, the first of whom is Ferruh Basaga. One of
the interesting things about Basaga is that he is from the same
generation as Ercumend Kalmik, who established the foundation.

Basaga was born in Istanbul in 1915. He graduated from that city's Fine
Arts Academy where he worked under Nazmi Ziya Guran, Zeki Kocamemi and
Leopold Levi. During the 1950s, the artist's paintings included
geometric and abstract shapes, whereas in the 1960s, he moved toward
lyrical compositions. After the 1970s, he started to use thinner paint,
and his blue colors acquired a incandescent character. The artist
started to paint broken planes by using triangular shapes and straight,
diagonal lines, later moving to curved lines.

One of Basaga's most important characteristics is that he analyzes
abstract forms, not only in a formalistic way but at a conceptual
level. Basaga states that he was influenced by Cezanne's color
compositions, by the mixture of scientific thought and abstract art in
the paintings of Paul Klee as well as by Georges Braque's cubism.

Basaga's "Mediterranean Series" may be seen daily from Oct. 6-24
between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The exhibition is closed on Sundays
and Mondays.
