Exhibition of the Association of the Painters of Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Ministry of Culture and Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina have
opened an exhibition of the Association of the Painters of Bosnia and
Herzegovina at the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture's Fahri
Koruturk Gallery in Ulus. The exhibition will be on display until Oct.
14.
* Painters Aslan and Gogus exhibition
Painters Aslan and Gogus's works displayed at TAA
Painters Lutfi Aslan and Abdulkadir Gogus have opened an exhibition of
their work at the Turkish-American Association's (TAA) M. E. Hekimgil
Art Gallery.
Aslan was born in Ankara in 1948. He studied architecture and worked as
an architect in the Ministry of Housing and Development between
1975-1984. Since 1984 he has been working at the Prime Ministry Housing
Development Administration. As a member of the Association of Painters
in Ankara he is able to continue his art education in Ankara. He has
participated in some group exhibitions in Turkey organized by the
association and has also had a solo exhibition at the Dedeman Art
Gallery in 1996.
Gogus was born in Adiyaman in 1956. He graduated from Gazi University's
school of communications and he also works at the Prime Ministry the
Housing Department Administration. He opened solo exhibitions at Is
Bank's Art Gallery in Ankara, Akbank's Cankaya Art Gallery, TAA's art
gallery and the Milo Art Gallery. He participated in 28 group
exhibitions in Ankara and other cities. He is also a member of the
Association of Painters in Ankara.
The joint exhibition by Aslan and Gogus can be seen until Oct. 17 at
TAA, Cinnah Caddesi No. 20, Kavaklidere.
* Cankaya Primary School student art exhibition to open at TAA
As part of the celebrations of the 75th year of the Turkish Republic,
artwork by students at the Cankaya Primary School will be displayed in
an exhibition to be held at the Turkish-American Association, Cinnah
Caddesi No. 20. The exhibit will open on Oct. 19 and end on Oct.30.
* 'Once upon a time in the Central Asia' photography exhibition opens
With the cooperation of Tugay Ozceri, the chairman of the Turkish
Cooperation and Improvement Agency of the Foreign Ministry, the
photography exhibition "Once upon a time in Central Asia" opened at the
State Painting and Sculpture Museum on Oct. 9.
The exhibition is comprised of 19th century photographs. The exhibition
of Ergun Cagatay can be viewed until Oct. 17.
This exhibition was previously on view at the Istanbul State Painting
and Sculpture Museum in 1996, Eskisehir's Anadolu University, Taskent,
Uzbekistan Painters Union Art Gallery in 1996, Kazakhstan in 1996,
Texas University and Texas Memorial Gallery in 1997, Japan in 1997.
Cagatay, a nationally and internationally recognized journalist, was
born in Izmir in 1937. He began working as a journalist at the Hurriyet
News Agency in 1966 while he was a law student and later he worked for
The Associated Press and the GAMMA photography agency. Cagatay's
interviews and photographs were published in numerous newspapers and
magazines including Life, Newsweek, Time, Figaro, Paris Match, Stern,
Epoca, Sunday Times and Aftenposten. He retired from active reporting
after being severely injured during a bombing of the Turkish Airlines
office at Paris' Orly Airport.
The photographs are among 100,000 photographs taken in the Middle East,
South Siberia, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Europe, and selected works
will be chosen to be published in a forthcoming book.
* Bakla's ceramic exhibition at Emlak Art Gallery
Erdinc Bakla's ceramics exhibition recently opened at Emlak Art Gallery
and will be on display until Oct. 30.
Bakla was born in 1939 in Erzurum and graduated from Istanbul Fine Arts
Institute of Higher Education in 1962. He worked at Germany's Krautheim
Porcelain Factory and at a pottery workshop in Cannakkale. Since 1960
he has taken part in joint exhibitions, and staged his first solo
exhibit in 1967. Bakla became a professor at Marmara University's
Faculty of Fine Arts in 1986, from which he resigned in 1997.
Bakla started to work on busts and sculpture in 1977 and for years has
been conducting research on traditional Turkish china.
The exhibition can be viewed at Emlak Art Gallery, Tunali Hilmi Caddesi
