Ram-raiders turn out to be swanky bag men
By Jano Gibson
October 6, 2005 - 10:52AM www.smh.com.au

The entrance of the Louis Vuitton store after the raid today.

Ram-raiders weren't after the jewels when they smashed into a swanky
Sydney store in the early hours today - they were after handbags.

Witnesses told police up to four balaclava-clad bandits used a Subaru
WRX to smash into the Louis Vuitton store on the corner of Castlereagh
and King streets shortly before 4am.

Even though the bandits rammed the store's doors with the car, the
17-millimetre laminated "bandit-proof" glass doors did not shatter.

However the doors did crack and the hinges gave, allowing enough room
for the raiders to slip through.

An unknown number of Luis Vuitton handbags - which can cost as much as
$10,000 each - were stolen during the robbery, said a security guard.

The store also sells designer jewellery but the guard said none had
been taken.

Staff were "shook up" by the theft, he said.

Forensics police studied the area early this morning and police are
appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the incident.

Police are reviewing footage of the raid captured on CCTV cameras
inside the shop and in the street.
three months ago, a Subaru WRX was smashed into a Sydney CBD department
store. Three masked men stole items, including valuable watches, from
locked display cabinets.
************************************************

Up to $10,000 each, this shows why it will be almost impossible to
stamp out the sale of counterfeit goods in LoS, there are several
sources of Louis Vuitton bags available of varying quality, according
to my sister in law who was here recently the *best* ones are very
good, the joints in the handle straps are sealed the trade mark symbols
are just like the real thing and the workmanship was excellent, price
1500 baht, lesser quality bags were much cheaper
