U.K. Tamil leader jailed

LONDON: A leading British Tamil leader was on Friday jailed for two
years for helping the LTTE.

Arunachalam Chrishanthakumar (52) of the British Tamil Association was
earlier convicted of illegally procuring equipment for the LTTE.
Prosecution said that he had procured equipment for the Tigers with an
“obvious terrorist purpose”. Three others tried with him were cleared.
Sentencing him, Justice Saunders said: “This was a protracted,
deliberate breaking of a law. These are very serious offences which
warrant substantial sentences. The terrorist law has to be obeyed as
part of our obligations”.
