CANCUN (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon said yesterday
that all nations were equally at risk of a new flu outbreak and he
called for a global response to the disease.
"No government can win this battle alone," he told a 43-nation
conference in Cancun, a resort town in southeastern Mexico state
Quintana Roo. He thanked foreign officials for their attendance, which
he described as "a gesture of friendship and solidarity" to a nation,
which has seen 116 deaths of the disease since it was first detected
on April 23.
The deadly new strain of the A/H1N1 flu is spreading in the state of
Yucatan, which neighbors Quintana Roo, where the meeting is taking
place, but the United States is the nation with the most infections
and deaths -- 27,717 infections and 127 deaths. Mexico has 10,894
confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu including 116 deaths.
