Do we have any electronic links with Moscow (USA)
I meant email or something. Can they read articles
that we post on this net.

The most depressing news heard in the last decade.
I hope what Yeltsin said "Gorby might have been killed"
is not true.

I think the world put all its eggs in Gorbys basket.
Should have grooomed someone else too for the leadership.
With deep regret,

FROM NEWS - MONDAY AUGUST 19TH 1991 - GORBACHEV OUSTED

``Gorbachev, who has been Soviet leader since 1985, was
to have been in the captital today to officiate at
the first signing of his Union Treaty, which was his
solution to kepeping the country together by allocating
more powers to the individual republics.

``He had left Moscow on August 4 on summer vacation [in the Crimea],
four days after he and Bush signed the historic
Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty on cutting back nuclear
weapons amid Kremlin Fanfare.

``In a statement today by the chairman of the
Supreme Soviet, Anatoly Lukyanov, said the Supreme
Soviet, or legislature, will not allow the new
Union Treaty to be signed because it would destroy
the Soviet Union as a viable economic entity.

``Lukyanov said the Union Treaty was opposed
because it denied the central government the
right to tax. Under the pact, the republics were
allowed to collect all taxes, and remit about
10 percent to Gorbachev's central government. ''

Does anyone has any information on the situation in the Armenian
Republic ? I heard on the BBC that the Azerbaidjani authorities
were very quick to support the new Moscow leaders. So I imagine
that the sympathy is mutual and that soon Armenia might suffer
from the coup. BBC did not report anything on Armenia.
