While denying that the latest African Renaissance plan was 'asking favours',
ruling Azanian (New SA) President Thabo Mbeki has admitted that the 'New
Partnership for Africa's Development' plan (NEPAD) seeks 'to focus on debt
reduction and forgiveness, reforming development assistance for Africa and
working on mechanisms to increase private capital flows into Africa'....
Speaking at a joint sitting of the Azanian (New SA) parliament, Mbeki said
that 'gains by African countries in accelerating democracy, human rights and
economic growth were a call to developed countries to help bridge the chasm
of unequal relations'.... Since the ANC/Communist leader started lobbying
world leaders for his so-called African renewal, it has been dressed up in
ever more verbose and extravagant garments : First as the so-called African
Renaissance, then as the 'Millennium Africa Recovery Programme',or MAP, and
now as the even more grand 'New Partnership for Africa's Development' or
NEPAD plan. Cynical critics have dismissed all these trappings as just
another example of the African art of begging.

I thought Mbeki has been pursuing privatization. That's hardly the
marks of a Communist leader. And, right or wrong, he is not the only
person involved in international politics that seeks some debt
reduction for Africa. There are good arguments for as well as against
this.
