Slovenian racism goes as far back as 1500 when a Jewish youth was
beheaded
Pod Trancho in Ljubljana because he kissed a Christian girl.
Then the good burghers of Ljubljana collected 4000 goldinars and
petitioned
Emperor Maximilian to expel all Jews from Ljubljana on account that
they are
doing the city "great harm." The emperor granted their request and
the Jews
had to leave Ljubljana in a hurry. They went to Venice. Actually they
were lucky
considering what would happen to them if they stayed.

As anyone who has been to Slovenia in the last 30 years
will confirm, that the level of racism in Slovenia is
relatively low. If not for anything else, because
there are so few people from other races, that no
sane person sees them as a treat. I assume Jews
and Roma to be the same race as Slovenians.

Both Slovenian and Venetian Jews were mostly deported to
concentration camps and killed. In Slovenia, this crime was
committed by the occupying German and Italian armed forces.
In Italy, this was done by the facsist government.
Slovenians were also deported to German (Dachau, Auschwitz
and Italian (Rab, Rizarna in Trst) concentration camps, many
died there.
In Slovenia, some Jews were able to join the partisan resistance
movement and survived the WWII.

There are still Jews living in Ljubljana, and some are
my friends and neighbors.
