heh. Are you still waiting for PP to come back. Maybe one of these days he
will and make your day. You still have Adam. :>)

What a great story above about the grandmother on the above link.. Doctors
can be wrong sometimes. You never know what can happen. I am glad for her.
Sas only 49 and has a while to go yet. I hope she continues to improve.

Yes he talked about his wee dog a lot and took the dog to hospitals and

history and also his young days in Kelty and surrounding area and his walks
with the wee dog. Seems strange that nobody here has seen him around or

What don't you understand about Scotland and the Pound Sterling, The Bank
of England and independence,"R.G.Bargie"?
The Bank of England is NOT English - it was nationalised as the UNITED
KINGDOM state bank in 1945. As such it is partly Scottish. In 1998 Gordon
Brown made it a UK owned, independent company and it, not the UK
parliament, sets interest rates. Sterling was made Scotland's currency by
the Treaty of Union. Furthermore, when the treaty ends so does the UK
Parliament and England has no parliament. Go figure!

Sounds like I've heard it before :-)

Nah, science, engineering or economics but not politics, no intelligence
required, a pox on all their houses.

I don't understand why anyone would want to be one, the salary is not that
great unless it's, "friends with benefits". Just see who benefits from the
installation of windmills - it's the "rent seekers" and the small people
have to pay extra in subsidies

When I click any of the above links I get Google which says: " Your search -
Robert Peffers - did not match any documents"
I copied and pasted these into my browser and it said the same as above -
"No match".
I can get the above two ok with pictures of various Robert Peffers.
I've seen that picture above on Ian's site before.

The hoover that I push isn't a Hoover, it's an LG. A few years ago we
needed to replace the Electrolux, I think. In the interests of peace and
tranquility, I didn't accompany the DB, I just push whatever is thrust into
my hands but I was impressed with what she came back with. It has a
cyclone, like the Dysons, that traps most of the dirt but then it has a
washable HEPA filter, no more filter bags, just rinse it off under a
faucet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA H13, very impressed, almost clean room
standards. It also has a 1.6kW motor that sucks everything in sight and it
was near the bottom of the price range, or so I was told.

The poor Yurps are shortly going to be restricted to 500/750 W motors. It's
called "Demand Side Management".

Sounds like the mess we made here with 'low-flow toilets'. They only
use 70% as much water, but you have to flush them 2-3 times. Same
here, I bet. Lower powered motors, but you're going to have to vacuum
longer to get things clean, so you'll ACTUALLY use more power.

****There's also the problem that the new "Water Saving" toilets won't flush
out the crap the way the older models did.
I'm amazed that some enterprising young person hasn't designed and marketed
some sort of gizmo that restores toilets to their original efficiency.

I bought a new toilet a few months ago or I wouldn't know anything about
amount of water toilets have been mandated to use now where I am located. In
Home Depot here they only sell 4.8 litres toilets or 6 liters. You can't buy
any toilet with more water for flushing than that in any store in Toronto
and probably all of Ontario. I was told that a couple of years ago you could
buy 10 or maybe it was 12 litre toilets, but the Ontario government said
toilets don't need all that water and manufacturers could only make 4.8
litre or 6 litres maximum. I got the 6 litre model and it works fine. One
flush is always enough. There is a government energy rebate allowed if you
buy a toilet that is 4.8 or 6 litre. I haven't tried to get it as I looked
up the necessary requirements. I thought it said you have to get a properly
licensed plumber or renovator to install it and getting a friend to install
it wouldn't qualify, but I have to look into it more.

Whether I copy and paste the full website or the tinyurl, theyare both the
same as before which is a google page with his name in the search box, but
when I click on it nothing happens. I can get the Mombu message you gave me
the URL for, but it has no year confirmation, but the one you found from the
Spectator.co.uk site has a year and date, so is more confirmed. I think the
one from Mombu could be from a previous year. They should put the year the
message was posted. But the one from the Spectator.uk site seems to confirm
a message posted is from Auld Bob, so we know he's still around and don't
need to know about Mombu with their "no year" posts.

explorer 7.0 though I don't think so because I've always been able to get
any other URL'S I get from people. I tried Explorer 8 but things got messed
up when I tried to cut out some of the junk. I guess I cut out too much
junk. so I went back to Explorer 7 for now. It's Mombu's fault for not
putting the year on their posts :). In the last message I sent to you
earlier, I couldn't get it to go through as it kept saying "too many lines

doesn't accept lines over 79 characters. They can be a bit fussy, but its a
good news server. I shortened the lines of the URL'S but it still didn't

you got my message OK the second time and will use Eternal-september

It must be him for sure. Nobody else has such passion when writing about
politics and history. He sounds like he's enjoying the topic and gets very
involved in the subject. I hope he posts here sometime again as he keeps
things going and he sometimes writes about Dunfermline my home town which I

He is certainly passionate, I picture him hunched over his computer,
feverishly pounding the keyboard with a grin on his face. But that is
unkind. He certainly has a few 'hot-button' topics - SNP, Independence,
Nuclear, Race and attracts a lot of abuse but he is still alive and
enegized and living in Kelty.

He does get aroung though:

Whats he got against us?

Oh, and critical of 'Yanks'

Anyway, he's 'good people' but I find politics more boring than global

Honestly, they don't care, it won't happen in their time so why should they
worry about it. They'll be rich and so they'll be financially insulated from

I think the only way the "International companies" will have an epipheny, is
if it forced upon them and to do that, it's going to have to be forced upon
the politicians first and foremost !

I believe it'll probably take a combination of a major war and/or a world
wide depression, followed by massive and sustained public protests, which
could easily degenerate into violence on both sides.
The violence and reciprocation of such would lead to further escalation.
Lets be candid, parents are going to start joining and supporting the
protests once they start seeing their kids who's outrage and anger they
support, start to get battered around by what they consider the oppressors.
I don't foresee this happening quite yet though, a large enough segment of
the populace haven't yet to reached their limit of endurance for the
continued and ongoing corruption.

As many times as it takes to drive the point home ? :)

You know, conway, I do wonder will the OWS movement pick up where it left
off in 2011.
With this being an election year, I believe there is a real possibility that
it may well get restarted.
And if it does it may make for some very interesting times, especially for
some of those bankers who must be sweating bullets in anticipation of their
getting caught up in any possible investigation of perported financial
wrongdoings by them and their bosses.
CBS and 60 minutes had a pretty good investigative episode of, I believe,
two large financial companies engaging in what appeared to be widespread
systematic corruption and I do wonder if the American government is looking
into those allegations, or are very powerful sources trying their best to
get it all hushed up.

And the news just keeps getting worse for Scotty's honourable banking
friends. :-)

http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/11/markets/bondcenter/interest-rate-manipulation/index.htm

*Big banks at center of interest rate probe*

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- It affects everything from mortgages to credit cards
to student loans, and now some of the world's biggest banks are at the
center of a criminal investigation into whether they manipulated it for
their own benefit.

The London Interbank Offered Rate, or Libor, is a measure of the cost of
borrowing between banks that serves as a benchmark for over $350 trillion
worth of financial products worldwide.
Higher Libor rates translate into higher borrowing costs for businesses and
consumers, while lower rates could make lenders reluctant to lend since they
can't charge as much in interest. In addition to consumer loans, certain
bonds and interest rate swaps also use it as a benchmark.

With all the different loans and investments tied to Libor, there are
serious consequences if the process is tampered with.

"If you move it even a little bit, it can cause massive redistribution of
resources because it's so extensively used," said Rosa Abrantes-Metz, a
professor at New York University's Stern School of Business and a former
economist with the Federal Trade Commission.

Last week, the Justice Department said in a letter to a federal judge that
it was conducting a criminal investigation of alleged Libor manipulation.
Officials in Switzerland, Canada and the United Kingdom are also looking
into the issue, according to disclosures in several banks' public filings."

cont........

If there is some good news to come out of this, the Europeans are much more
likely to jail the high priced help from these outfits. We'll just have to
see what developes...

cheers....Jeff

No it doesn't. Lithium reacts less vigorously with water than do either
sodium or potassium. It doesn't even get hot enough to melt. Flooding
the area with water is usually the recommended way to tackle a lithium
fire.

As always, it depends...

http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA238154
"Solid lithium reacts rather slowly with water (Reference 5),"

"Bulk solid lithium at room temperature did not burn spontaneously in
water, and the hydrogen formed did not ignite in air. When a pea-sized
piece of lithium was dropped into a container of water, it reacted much
more slowly than did sodium, and it did not splatter or evolve light. A
solid piece of lithium when immersed in liquid water at room temperature
retained its original shape, but decreased slowly in size as it reacted
with the water. A 3/8-inch sphere of lithium immersed in 250 em8 of water
at ambient temperature in either air or argon atmosphere became warm (98 to
103'C), and the temperature of a 3S-inch sphere of lithium immersed in
water/Ice slurry in an air atmosphere, where the water volume > > lithium
volume, rose to approximately 40"C. In boiling water under an argon
atmosphere, solid lithium reacted without combustion.

These examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the surrounding water as a
heat sink".

"Lithium reacts with water but it does not ignite unless the metal is
finely divided (Reference 12).
When a 40-gram sample of lithium was ignited, it attained a flame
temperature of 1350C (Reference 67)."

"When the metal burns strongly, RH.90% the flame is dazzling white
(References 1, 15, 29), and the reaction of lithium vapor with air forms an
intense white flame (Reference 42) that is brighter than any of the other
alkali metal fires (Reference 36).

The combustion of lithium in air involves the reactions of lithium with
both oxygen and nitrogen, and these reactions are influenced by the
presence of moisture. This review described the known information regarding
these reactions. A lithium fire in air burns brilliantly white and emits
substantial aerosol consisting primarily of lithium oxide, hydroxide, and
carbonate, while the combustion residue consists of lithium oxide, nitride,
and hydroxide. Many substances were tried as extinguishants for lithium
fires; the most effective ones appear to be various forms of carbon."

CONCLUSIONS
"The combustion of lithium in air involves the reactions of lithium with
both oxygen and nitrogen, and these reactions are influenced by the
presence of moisture." Halon is ineffective.

Lithium batteries have been implicated in two fatal airplane crashes.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2011/nov/26/feds-probe-new-battery-fires-in-chevrolet-volt/?page=2#article
"The Federal Aviation Administration issued a warning to airlines about the
potential for fires in cargo containing lithium-ion and non-rechargeable
lithium metal batteries after a United Parcel Service plane crashed near
Dubai last year, killing both pilots. The plane, which was on fire, was
carrying thousands of lithium batteries.

Incorrectly packaged, damaged or overheated batteries can catch fire, the
FAA said. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries can reach 1,100 degrees,
close to the melting point of aluminum, a key material in airplane
construction. *_Lithium-metal battery fires are far hotter, capable of
reaching 4,000 degrees."_*
I assume they mean F and I guess that is the figure being repeated in the
various reports.

Lithium Battery Fire Could Burn Through a Cargo Hold
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0UBT/is_29_18/ai_n6280925/
"There is one case where a lithium battery fire may have played a role in
the crash of a transport category airplane. In November 1987 a South
African Airways B747 combi (a hybrid freighter with a partition separating
cargo from passengers on the main deck), with 159 passengers aboard and
cargo which included a consignment of lithium watch batteries, disappeared
into the Indian Ocean off Mauritius".

Although pay-walled figs. 5 and 6 both show temps approaching 1700C in dry
air.
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0010218011000381

What is not contested is that a Chevy Volt ignited spontaneously,
destroying several nearby cars and that GM have redesigned and strengthened
the battery compartment.
