Haven't you noticed.....

The only people who are remotely interested in creating
and perpetuating DEMOCRACY are the citizens of
what used to be THE BRITISH EMPIRE.

Think about it.!!
Do I tell a lie???

Democracy has more than one meaning. Government by the people. What a
heady ideal!
The other meaning is as promulgated by some governing elite here and
elsewhere.
The American constitution didn't really mean a true democracy. The men
writing the constitution put in some rules that the people would be
led by a group of wise men who better understood the workings of
government. It is one reason why there is the popular vote and the
electorial college vote. For government to be truly by the people,
would be for the people to truly be interested in working to insure a
just government, truly meeting the needs of the people. So instead in
the US anyway, the people are happy enough to go through the motions
of finding the next leaders, both as president and in congress. All
this finageling leads to much disinterest and 25% of the people able
to vote, actually voting. If it were my choice, many times I would
choose to vote - find a better person. This name is not one I want as
a leader. Sally

I saw this recipe prepared by Alton Brown on "Good Eats" on the Food
Network TV tonight.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_14437,00.html

I've never seen the show before, and was particularly interested in all
the scientific theories about cooking times, and various ingredients'
reactions to different substances.

Nobody leaves here hungry. Sure wish we could come to Stirling,
though, even if the place will be chockablock with quilters. Paducah
Kentucky is the place for that, by the way. I think May is the month,
you'd have to google "Paducah quilting" to see. Last year there were
thousands and thousands of wee grans all trotting around from place to
place. So crowded were the streets I had to do my drinking and belly
scratching indoors!

Then there is to be an alternative to Houston in Chicago. Then if you

Ah Buffy Sainte Marie. Reminds me of a story I was told by Hamish
Imlach. seems he had orgainsed a concert in Glasgow some time ago and
Hamish and Eoin Hand went to Glasgow airport to meet Buffy, the Rev

Now Buffy was Buffy, but the Rev Gary was a 6'7" black guy and
Champion Jack dressed like a cowboy in Levis, snakeskin boots and a
stetson.

When they arrived at the airport they were full of drink and, so they
thought, late. They had for gotten however, that the clocks had gone
back the night before so they were actually about 40 minutes early!

Anyway, they went to the enquiries desk and asked if the three
troubadors had arrived. The girl behind the desk asked what they
looked like and Hamish explained that they were looking for a Red
Indian, a 6'7" black Reverend and a tall, thin cowboy! She called the
cops!!!!

Up there on the Big Rock Candy Mountain?
;=)

I'd love to drop by and help but me dear wife's never ending chore list
calls to me.
Yesterday I washed down the house.
Now in all the years I've been on this earth, I've never had to wash a house
down.
Why is this?
My engineer friend (NEVER ask an engineer friend a question unless you have
the afternoon free) about this and he said that once upon a time all
exterior paint was either lead based or had mercury in it and this retarded
the growth of mildew.
No more so the mildew flourishes and husbands wash down houses.
Some world, in't?

We just use a bottle of bleach with a cup or so of Blue Coral car wash
soap mixed in. Then with a pressure washer to mix and dilute it, I
spray it over the house at low pressure and simply rinse it all off
with clear water. Simple as pie and no scrubbing. Now if you mean
to paint again, there's additive for the primer and overcoat.

Sure do miss lead, though...somewhere around here I have a formula
book for boiled linseed oil, magnesium dioxide and white lead. I made
a tough, everlasting paint but if you add too much linseed oil it
turns yellowish with time.

My problem is that I have vinyl siding and they swear that if you use a
pressure washer on it, why the water will flood behind the siding, creating
all manner of problems.
So it's bleach, wash detergent, and a long handled plastic scrub brush.

Well for goodness sakes, no wonder you are tired. Look, ignore "them"
and believe me, it is okay to do it the way I described. Only use a
brush for very stubborn mud, algae accumulations and the like.
Otherwise, spray the bleach & soap, let it sit, repeat until the
mildew vanishes and algae turns brown and rinse. No real pressure
needed, just loft it on and rinse it off.
Use car wash soap instead of regular liquid soap because it rinses off
of the windows spot-free (and presumably, off your siding as well).
Now if the vinyl is aging and color runs off it with the rinse, take a
few bottles of cheap tire shine and spritz the whole thing down from a
ladder. You can wipe it with an extension handled soft brush to catch
the drips if there are any and your vinyl will shine like new for the
whole season. Just try not to get too much on the windows or you'll
be a'washing them all over again!

More devious than that, Mac.
After I've made a thorough muck up of the job, Stephen will come rattling by
in his old pickup, offering to repair the damage "for a fee".

I calculates that if the growth of mildew remains constant, it will be the
spring of 2007 before any further house washing will be required.
Unfortunately by then I will have forgotten all about your formula.

Jacque Brel was Belgian. Begian bon-bons are excellent, I
believe they make more different beers than just about
anybody, and IIRC correctly French Fries is a nisnomer as
they were originally invented by the Belgians. Frite-Saus?
