Sorry Douglas - I went back and had a look at the site but didn't get past

It's just as I was explaining to Scotty re global temperature.. There are
always short term fluctuations in any long term trend.
Thus it is with the gradual rise of humanity towards knowledge despite
religious dogma.
The religious maniacs tried to suppress the discovery that the Earth orbits
the sun for example - time passes and truth will out.
Now the religious maniacs are trying to suppress the discovery that life
evolved from single-celled organisms to complex self-aware mammals.
It's nothing new. Time will pass and truth will out.
Very dodgy article anyway.
As far as I can interpret from the spin most people were tolerant enough to
agree that traditional creationist fairy tales have a place - just not in
the science classroom.
And what about all the other creationist tales - Hindu's, Aborogines,
Maori's and just about every other race or religion have their own versions.
Why teach only the Christian version - especialy in a largely secular and
otherwise multi-denominational country
If they are going to teach middle-eastern bronze age mythology then they
should also teach about the The Giant Invisible Flying Spaghetti Monster -
there exists just as much scientific proof after all.
According to Bill Hicks, God put fundamentalist Christians on earth to test
our faith in humanity.
He's on good form here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrZcztxRquo&feature=related
International Results, From The Gallup Organisation:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/3742/new-poll-gauges-americans-general-knowledge-levels.aspx
"Four out of Five Americans Know
Earth Revolves Around Sun
Probing a more universal measure of knowledge, Gallup
also asked the following basic science question, which
has been used to indicate the level of public knowledge
in two European countries in recent years: "As far as
you know, does the earth revolve around the sun or does
the sun revolve around the earth?" In the new poll, about
four out of five Americans (79%) correctly respond that
the earth revolves around the sun, while 18% say it is the
other way around. These results are comparable to those
found in Germany when a similar question was asked there
in 1996; in response to that poll, 74% of Germans gave
the correct answer, while 16% thought the sun revolved
around the earth, and 10% said they didn't know. When
the question was asked in Great Britain that same year,
67% answered correctly, 19% answered incorrectly, and
14% didn't know."
So if we average the States, Germany, and the UK (and
ignore the differences in population size, because I can't
be arsed to correct for them at this moment), we see that
roughly 18% of the Industrialised Western Democracies
think the Sun orbits the Earth (with another 8% Not Certain),
leaving only about 74% of the populace who actually know
(or think) that the Earth orbits the Sun.
This corresponds with my theory (derived from observing
Conservatardis Amercanis) that roughly 1/4 of the entire
human species is responsible for all of the problems of
the entire world throughout History...
The problem is that, with technology sufficiently advanced
now to Actually Make A Difference, those fuckups (who
would number in total what now - about 1,750,000,000?)
can actually do things which might lead to the destruction
of the entire species.
Watching The Marching-Moron Monkeymass,

Hey! I'm the one who has actually read the IPCC documents. let me re-quote
it just for you.
In the IPCCs most recent Assessment Report (AR4 WG1 8.3 and 9.4) as well
as in the relevant primary literature, the AR4 Synthesis Report states:
"On scales [smaller than 50 years], natural climate variability is
relatively larger [than human influences], making it harder to distinguish
changes expected due to external [e.g.man-made] forcings".
Do you see, "natural climate variability" in there?
That takes us back to 1960... and don't forget that 1932 was warmer than it
is today. But if you want to troll, pick your own initial conditions and
pick your own trend line. Unfortunately it doesn't include 1932 or go back
to 1960.
I could even claim that the recent global cooling is Clinton's fault since
the recent cooling started when Clinton signed the repeal of the
Glass-Steagall Act.
>
> Do you see, "natural climate variability" in there?
You're out of date.as ususal. I already replied to this red herring.
There IS now a marker for AGW.
And your misrepresented 'quote' says it makes it 'harder' it doesn't say it
makes it impossible.
And given that we have records going back 200,000 years anyway your 50 years
is a mere blink.
Meanwhile giant passenger cruise ships begin docking in Nome.
Some 'hoax'.
> That takes us back to 1960... and don't forget that 1932 was warmer than
> it
> is today.
Er.. except that it wasn't of course. Only in the US. I understand this
concept is hard for you parochials to grasp but the USA is NOT the World -
it's just a tiny part of it.
And even there every single year bar one, every single state in the
north-east has experienced warmer than mean average temperatures since 1971.
That's what we people in the real world outside call a fact.
Choosing a conclusion and then tracking down any little cherry picked piece
of data that vaguely supports that conclusion is not science.
You should think about buying some property in Nome - it's the next
boom-town.
What the hell are you rambling on about now?!
Show me one word in the above that is even remotely like 'banging a drum'.
Seems to me that teaching kids about at least a few of the world's dozens of
different creationist myths, *including* the Christian one, would be a
balanced and fair approach to the percived 'problem'.
And if the Christian creation myth isn't 'middle-eastern bronze-age
mythology' then what the hell is it? History?! LOL.
It *should* be taught anyway IMO, as part of Theology or 'Religious
Education' as it was termed when we were taught about the various myths when
I was a schoolkid in *ngland.
They should wait until the advent of reason before they start however.
Indoctrination in ANY belief before that stage in a child's development is
nothing short of child abuse.
And we can all see the ghastly results of it in that little minority of
'home-schooled' ignorant, hate-filled bigots who pray for a thermo-nuclear
war. (that *they* will mirculously survive of course).
Look to your own one-beat rythm section Conway - before you accuse others of
what you do yourself.
There you go - that's YOUR rythm section again. Trying to drown out the
voice of reason.
There are plenty of other beats in the world and you should always be open
to new tunes.
I've considered 'Jesus loved the dinosaurs' as a possibility (for all of one
second) but rejected the theory based on hundreds of years of scientific
research and 3 billion years of fossil records which prove the contrary.
Maybe you have some new and better evidence that we should all hear about?

Atlanta is a crap shoot. You just guess and go.....there are
always too many cars for the pavement so it's just your lucky day if
there's construction or an accident along your chosen route. Many
times, unless it's rush hour, going straight through rather than using
the beltways is best.....less miles for there to be a problem.

I'm just going by the large number of polls which suggest almost half of all
Americans literaly believe in the Creation myth AND that "God created Man in
his current form within the last 10,000 years"..
Here's the average of the polls for the last 25 years of US people who
believe precisely that.
1982 44%
1993 47%
1997 44%
2001 45%
2004 45%
http://www.religioustolerance.org/ev_publi.htm
One of many sites that say much the same thing. If that's not collective
****ing insanity I don't know what is.
Incidentily - among a total of 480,000 U.S. degree-educated earth and life
scientists the figure drops to 0.14%
So there IS hope - we just have to educate people properly.
Which is why it's ludicrous to even consider putting religious creation
myths into the science curriculum.
I doubt there is a science class in America what teaches Creationism or
Intelligent planning (outside of Christian schools which of course may teach
whatever they wish to.
Please understand, the American school system is firmly in the clutches of
the ultra liberal anti religious left (AKA "Leftards")
Now there may be an exception or two here and there but by and
large.....anti Christian all the way..
Where do you dig up these rabid agenda pursuing sites?
Half of the people in the US never even heard of Bishop Usher.
Do I hear an anti-Masonic skillet whistling through the air just off your

"let things develop" as you say?
You know, one of the answers to the question, "If
God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent,
why then does It allow so much suffering and death
to occur?" is: "Because It's Just Not That Into Us!"
Ie: if Spirit is Eternal, then wouldn't God find the
passing of mere Flesh barely worth noticing? If the
truly Important thing is the Soul, then why would
the deaths of *any number* of Widows, Orphans,

Of course, it's because people are Afraid and they

Absolutely. These throwbacks have merely commandeered a beautiful philosphy

There's really not that much of a contradiction between the two explanations
(Bible and Science) if the christians only had an open mind and heart to see
it.
And God said; "Let There Be Light"!
How better to explain the 'Big Bang' - makes just as much sense as every

Actually, Georges Lemaitre, asked the Pope not to try to use his theory

Deny deny deny . Geezuss Conway!
They are GALLUP POLLS!!

extract the Gallup poll results from is utterly irelevant/
Do you think the same GALLUP POLLS would have given a different result if
I'd got them from hillbilliesareus.org or imthefriggingpope.com?!
Tell you what - you give me the url of a site that you think OK to get the
same Gallup Poll results from and I'll go and cut and paste them from there
instead. I can't say fairer than that can I?
Gallup are just about THE most respected polling organisation there is.and
theyve been asking the exact same question regularly for the last 27 years
and got pretty much the same results every single time.
But on no - Conway Caine - The world reknowned parochial hillbillie and
theologist knows better than thousands of Americans who answered Gallop's
poll questionaiire.
Jesus wept.
Look you moron - They don't *have* to have "heard of Bishop Usher" to be
jaw-droppingly
stupid and believe in the myth. It's simply not a requirement.
In fact, if anything, it lends further credibility to the 27 years of
consistant polling results because if these crackpots HAD heard that the
whole theory of the earth being 6,000 years old was cooked up by an
eccentric raving madman (and bloody Irish to boot IIRC) in the 19th century
maybe - just maybe - they would question the validity of it instead of
accepting it as 'gospel'.
It's blindingly clear that 44% -47^ of of those polled believe;
"God created Man in his current form within the last 10,000 years"..
That was the question and that was the answer from thousands of yanks.
Almost half of them.
Whether you want to contribute that fact to people having heard of Usher or
not having heard of Usher is entirely up to you and doesn't affect the fact
one iota.
Christ - I waste so much of my time spelling out the totally bleeding
obvious for you.
Well, I don't know if it was child abuse. It was just a ritual that we went

Much of our School faculties firmly believe that anyone who expresses a
belief in Christianity must, on the face of it, be insane (the same view
once held by the Soviet Union BTW).
Now New Ageism or Ophraism or any of the other world's sects or faiths are
perfectly acceptable to them.
No so Christianity.
OTOH I don't think that chanting "new age" mantras would be any more
"acceptable". The Canadian experience, anyway, is to respect all religions,
and in so doing, not forcefeed any one of them to anybody through the school
system.

" William Keighley's 1936 film The Green Pastures, where all
characters, including God, are played by African American actors (Rex
Ingram in the case of what the movie calls "De Lawd"). The opening
prologue of that film included what amounted to a disclaimer, to make
the movie palatable to the white audiences in the United States of the
time, asserting that:
God appears in many forms to those who believe in him. Thousands of
Negroes in the Deep South visualize God and Heaven in terms of people
and things they know in their everyday life. The Green Pastures is an
attempt to portray that humble, reverent conception."

A disclaimer they'd probably still have to use were they
to film it today in Oz with aboriginal actors.

Amazing the things one picks up down at the old lodge hall.

Adam is very consistent.
If the article or statistic does not support his views (or slags, take your

Point, set, and match to the old fart.................
<heh>
But we are all tarred with the same brush, James.
My take is, let each of us believe what we will believe.
And frankly, it isn't anyone's business but our own what we choose to
believe.
So?
Are we to pass legislation forbidding the Christians from such thoughts?
How about rounding up the Fundies and confining them to concentration camps?
Then gas 'em good before they destroy all humanity..............
In our country, the school systems, here and there, try repeatedly to forbid
bibles being brought to schools.
Or private prayer times
Or voluntary prayer/study groups.
All such repressions violate the constitution and all are dwelt with in the
courts which continue to chop down on school systems employing such
practices.
That is absolutely crazy. btw, do they allow military recruiters in the
(high) schools?

It's "absolutely crazy" to enforce the separation of
church and state? And yes, recruiters are, to the
best of my knowledge, allowed into the high schools
during "career day" and the like...after all, for some
people, the military _is_ a career.

I've just told you it was. What more proof do you need.
Perhaps the sordid morning ritual we endured (and God knows what the
teachers must have made of it all) was relatively mild but there are
certainly 'Jesus Camps' and private religious schools were the behavior
falls squarely under that definition and catagory.
You can see the sad results every day.
I actualy was doing the opposite : )
Using God as 'proof' of the logicality of the 'Big Bang'.
And George might have come up with the idea but that doesn't mean he owns
it.
I like it anyway and that's all that really matters.
Exactly - now go and tell that to the crazies who brand people like me as
"Godless atheists" (as if that was a *bad* thing) and claim that
non-christians have no morality (that's a ****ing laugh if ever there was
one).
I think they should follow Jesus' teaching and pray in private as he
instructed them - and not to lay their trip on other people - again as he
instructed them.
Will they *ever* shut the **** up and let us live in peace.
Who mentioned Christians?
I'm talking about that stomach-churning cult of intolerant fascist bigots
who have hijacked Christianity.

So you're happy that *they* want *everyone* burnt to death except them.
You're really OK with that?
Idiot troll snipped.

I've already discussed the UK figures (that was what the thread was about
remember) and no-one is *denying* them - which was my point as you well
know.
Actually, you ought to see this:
School boards in Kansas have been teaching it
off-and-on (they've been bouncing back-and-forth
as Laws and Officials change and Court Cases
are decided) for about 10 years now. Ohio was
screwing around with it for some four years as
recently as 2006, and Georgia was until 2005.
And Texas is still mandating "neutrality" on the
"theory" of 'Intelligent Design' - to the degree that
they *fired* a teacher for announcing an upcoming
speaking engagement by an Evolution Supporter.

Brilliant. Thanks for that.
You know some people go their whole lives without ever knowing what real
comedy is supposed to sound like.
Was it sufficient to placate the infallible ones though?
I'm just going from a hazy memory of a TV documentary I saw about thirty
years ago but SFAIR there was a big reaction from God's chosen people who
were outraged at the heresy and demanded they be crucified forthwith -
something like that anyway.
Maybe I'm wrong and I can't be arsed googling it but that's how I remember
it.
