You set me off looking for more.
Here is the first ever appearnce of his character 'The Reverend I.M. Jolly'.
A masterpiece of deadpan to camera IMO.

And La N was asking about some of my favourite bits from the Bible.
Here's his take on The Wedding Feast - the one where JC turns water into
wine.
I still shamelessly steal some of the lines from this one to this day.

I'm watching this right now ... :) I admire a comic who can deliver good
comedy deadpan style.

Yeah, I think I remember it - though not too clearly it should be said. . It
has been scandalously alleged that I was doing a lot of hallucinogenics back
then.
As I vaguely recall it, in some ways the real 'Late Call' was more like a
parody of 'Last Call' rather than the other way round
The Rev Jolly was more perceptive, insightful and thought-provoking (and
infinitely more cheery) than the procession of morose mediocre character
actors, straight out of central casting,.impersonating stereotypical
men-of-the-cloth. Right down to the buck-teeth, the lisp and the compulsive
hand-wringing.
Never mind - it was all for a Jolly good cause (STV ratings) and was
apparently *hugely* popular all over Scotland. Though as a devout
beyond-redemption hedonist I've never been privy as to the reasons why.
IIRC it went out for about five minutes, late on a Sunday night after the
Vicars of Pinewood Thespian Society had been chucked out of Glasgows
soo-side strip clubs and were hell-bent on their five mnutes of fame.
They all had their own ludicously tortured pet allegories that they had
obviously been saving up for their big TV moment. Like; "I was in the
fishmongers in Sauchiehall Street one wet and windy Saturday and that set
me to thinking about James and John and how Jesus calmed the storm" [drone
drone drone]
A kind of Radio 4 'thought for the day' on a double dose of Mogodon. Had a
script that would have been more suited to eventide home closed-circuit
radio but boasted an improvised deadpan-to-camera visual sketch that always
contrived to be both hilarious for those beyond dedemption yet suitably
sombre and instructional for the zealous. Perhaps *that* was the secret of
it's broad appeal?
Have I got the right programme or was it just all those mushroom omelettes?
She's very good. She reminds me of some of the best of the best female
comics who have been featured on Saturday Night Live who could pull off a
variety of characters.
