No, I stopped when I saw all those benighted Canucks sitting on ice, fishing
and freezing.
Us middle of the roaders have hearts too, Nilita.

Well, then you missed the punchline.

I'm sure you do ... it's just that the heart gets hidden under many
defensive layers when it comes to universal health care.

I received an email today with pictures of ice fishing in the UP.
I had to establish where UP was :-)
But it looked a very precarious past time to say the least..

All those cars parked on the ice in one small area .......shudder.
The stuff of nightmares and obviously cars went in as there
were pictures of them being pulled out.

Do many people get killed doing this??

Actually, no.
I don't think I've ever come out against Universal Health Care.
I'm for it.
So are many of the middle roaders.

But we'd like to know what would be cut from the budget to pay for it.
Something will have to go.
Even our friendly bankers, the Chinese, have asked how we plan to pay for
these new programs.
I think what the inscrutable Chinese are saying is that they have no
intention financing our health care programs with their money.

I don't know about ice fishing fatalities. But here in my town every New
Year's Day we have a polar bear swim, where many brave souls don bathing
suits and take a dip in the Columbia River. Last year, some crazy drunken
fellow jumped into the river with the others, fully clothed and with a
dinosaur float toy. He kissed the plastic dinosaur on the nose before he
floated out of bounds and into the rapids to his demise.

Well, I know this sounds loathesome to many Americans, but I think your
taxes would have to be raised. This is how *we* pay for our health care and
other benefits.

I reiterate that I have many great conservative American friends, but
universal health care is where we part company because I'm passionate about
it.

No, it isn't. At least not totally, it isn't. You pay for part of it

What if it's your coprolitic so-called 'brain'?

According the the non-partisan CBO, the current bill
will reduce the Federal Deficit by $130,000,000,000
over a ten year period. What part of the word 'reduce'
are you haveing difficulty comprehending?

We are a democracy, Nilita.
We may not always do what foreigners wish us to do but we WILL do what we
wish to do.
And we are not going to bow to the demands of our neighbors to change our
ways.
We will change our ways when we wish to change our ways.
And that is about as truthful a statement as you are apt to hear this week.

Of course you can. I'm not saying "we're" better than "you" or that "you"
are better than "us". But, I do have American interests and friends who
share my sentiments, and this issue is one of the deciding factors as to
whether or not I eventually choose to reside in the States, among other
things.

Oh come now, Nilita: he's being *very* patient with
you - even going so far as to posit in another thread
that you must've been in your cups when disagreeing
with him previously, and giving you "a little while" to
come round to seeing things his way again! What
more could you possibly ask for?

You just got through saying how some American views on health care are
repugnant to you.
Apparently you do not wish to allow them to have their own mind (at least
not without a great deal of critical comments from you).

There are many Americans that share your sentiments.
There are others that do not.
If you wish unanimity on this subject before moving to the US, you may have
a very long wait.
(And I don't believe I said or implied that "we're" better than "you" or
that "you" are better than "us")
