Another Space - Subterranean Landscape Blues

Working as Another Space, artists Trevor Avery and Nigel Mullan have
created a multi-media environment, Subterranean Landscape Blues. The
work investigates hidden military structures in the Highlands, mapping
the effects of the armed forces upon the landscape.
Unique footage of lost, secret war time underground military defence and
storage facilities in Easter Ross features in the exhibition. Exclusive
access was granted to Highlands based arts organisation Another Space to
enter and film these secret, underground features, some for the very
first time.
Visitors can see for themselves abandoned secret operations and map
rooms, theatre and projections rooms, underground armouries and massive
underground oil storage facilities. The system of oil caverns alone sit
high in the hills overlooking Invergordon and include an overall total
storage area estimated to cover over eight football pitches with
extensive tunnel systems.
Showing that the past is never far away from the present, the imposing
forms of the North Sea oil platforms lie at anchor in the Cromarty Firth
whilst RAF aircraft roar across the skies overhead to target the bombing
range near Tain.
