I am American, my wife is a Russian citizen (US permanent resident).
A few weeks ago her purse was stolen and her Russian passport was in
it.
She would like to travel back to Russia in October, so we called the
Russian consulate to see about getting a new passport.
They told us that she needed to have 2 Russian citizens physically
present with her at the consulate who would swear under oath that she
was a Russian citizen.
The consulate which serves out state is hundreds of miles away, and
the time and expense of finding two Russian citizens who could travel
with us to the embassy is enormous.
I find it impossible to believe that a Russian visiting the US and has
their passport stolen has to go through such an impossible set of
demands just to return to their home country - someone visiting here
alone could easily get stuck in the US for months!
There must be another way for my wife to quickly get the documents she
needs to travel to her own country.
Has anyone here had any experience with this situation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
