Bridging between Dui Bangla
Group art exhibition by young artists of Bangladesh and India

Since the partition in 1947, the fine arts of Indian sub-continent has
moved to different directions. Though the dui Bangla share the same
historical background,the partition played a significant role for the
later blooming of separate and newer artistic development.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka, in collaboration with some young
artists from the Government Art College,West Bengal and Institute of
Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, has organized a 11-day long group art
exhibition at the art gallery of Indian Cultural Centre beginning today.
Perhaps the point to focus is that these young artists have come out of
the barrier of religion and regionality and are confident enough to
carry the flag of humanity.
The exhibition includes young artists mostly students except few
elderly ones, such as Tarun Dey who had his graduation in 1980 from the
government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta and received a number
of awards including Governer Award Best Exhibit (Gold Medal) by Academy
of Fine Arts. The exhibition is also a fine piece by Anjan Das who is a
self-taught artist.
The young local artists are Abdul Halim Chanchal, presently student of
M.F.A. Drawing and Painting, Institute of Fine Arts, University of
Dhaka, who received the First Human Figure Award in Oil Painting in the
country. Imran Hossain, student of same institution,will display his
speciality in landscape painting and sculpture.
The visiting artists are Bhabatosh Sutar a final year student of Govt
Art College,Calcutta has received the Sunil Das Scholarship in 1998-99.
Chanchal will display his "Behind the Scene" which focuses on to the
complex human psyche.
Self-taught Polly Das, with her Composition -1 tried to capture the
rhythm of the nature.
Imtiaz Islam Shohag a graduate from iInstitute of Fine Arts, University
of Dhaka, will display his " Accident" which depicts a badly damaged
car symbolizing the cut -throat and futile competition of life.
The exhibition will be inaugurated at 5pm today by Professor Shamarjeet
Roy Chowdhury, Institutes of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Deputy
High Commissioner of India,.P.R.Chakravarty will be present as special
guest. Artist Rokeya Sultana will be the guest of honour of the
ceremony. The exhibition will remain open from 12pm to 8pm daily.
