More proof Islam doesnt work . Force women out of education
and stay at home and in desperately poor countries they have no option
but to beg or be forced into prostitution.

State officers who kill Shias: The press is careful in reporting the
sectarian truth in Karachi but some signs of a desperate kind of
courage have come to light after the heart-rending murders of the Shia
doctors in the city. Amjad Bashir Siddiqi wrote in The News (5 August
2001): 'These sectarian organisations, with enormous money in their
pockets, spend it without any limits to free terrorists or to bail
them out, and more importantly, to ingress into the administration.
Recently, money was spent to free a terrorist from the custody of CIA,
who, three days later assassinated the chief of Sunni Tehreek, Saleem
Qadiri. Lately, they are also trying to wriggle free another activist
of their party now on death row and are ready to spend as much money
as needed to ensure that Mansur, convicted for the killing of seven
members of three families in PECHS back in 1993, gets bail'.

The article goes on to describe how the Jaish-e-Muhammad leader
Maulana Masood Azhar, whose entry was banned in Sindh because of the
wave of sectarian terrorism, was stopped at Karachi airport and was
asked to go back. Azhar phoned someone and the ban was immediately
lifted to allow him to enter Karachi, after which he had a meeting
with home secretary, Sindh. Azhar also later went to Ghotki in
violation of the ban and was ignored by the local SDM there who was
probably himself anti-Shia. The officer was pulled up, but later
still, when Maulana Azhar tried to enter Sukkur and was stopped by the
district administration it was pulled up this time for not giving him
unhampered passage to anywhere in the city. The article adds: 'Another
serious problem has been the criminalisation of the jehadi elements,
some of whom have been involved in sectarian killings. Recently,
commissioner Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Khwaja gave Rs 200,000 to the
prime suspect of Saleem Qadri's murder, Arshad Polka, as compensation
money for being a victim of terrorism. Polka had died during the
attack on the Sunni Tehreek leader.' The article goes on to link the
state machinery with sectarian killers. Officers aligned to sectarian
killers do two things: they get the criminals released in case they
are caught after the act, and they see to it that caught terrorists
are not allowed to be linked to the jehadi militias. The state is in
fact the killer of the Shia in Pakistan.

ISI and Shia killings: Monthly Newsline (June 2001) actually wrote
that the intelligence agencies were 'in' with the sectarian
terrorists: 'The official quoted above has no hesitation in accusing
the ISI of orchestrating such (Shia) murders through the militants of
sectarian parties, adding that Sipah Sahaba terrorists are trained by
the agency. The Sipah Sahaba are supported by the MQM Haqiqi Group.
Sources reveal that Sipah Sahaba's (sic!) Riaz Basra has been spotted
in the company of a colonel who has also given him shelter in his
house. Similarly, when three members of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were picked
up by the police, another colonel, who identified himself as their
PRO, requested that they be released forthwith'. It should be noted
that Riaz Basra has been described by the magazine as a Sipah
activist! Karachi has killed 450 people in cases of sectarian violence
since General Musharraf took over the government in October 1999.
Lately the killing is one-sided because the Sunni-Deobandi combine is
simply too strong to be countered by the Shia organisations.

The shia-sunni conflict is as old as Islam itself in the Indian
subcontinent, but it was effectively marginalised by a secular British
raj which treated it as a law-and-order issue. After 1947, the policy
was continued and the worst sectarian riots were defined by the state
as no more than public disorder which the executive handled as
violation of the CRPC, the legal code of criminal procedure. The
clergy involved in the conflict gradually became tired as the citizens
mixed and intermarried across the sect boundaries. The breakdown of
the secular state under General Zia's martial law brought the
shia-sunni differences to centre-stage.

General Zia versus the Shias: General Zia took over the populist
slogan of Nizam-e-Mustafa and imposed 'shariah' on Pakistan. It really
meant the imposition of the Sunni Hanafi 'fiqh' or jurisprudence
followed by the majority population from which the shias were
excluded. The two early laws under 'shariah' that he enforced failed
miserably: the first, abolition of 'riba', failed because of the
inability of the Islamic scholars to reinterpret Islam for modern
conditions; the second, 'zakat', failed because the shia
jurisprudence, called 'Fiqha-e-Jaafaria', had a conflicting
interpretation of zakat. In 1980, an unprecedented procession of
shias, led by Mufti Jaafar Hussain, laid siege to Islamabad and forced
General Zia to exempt the shia community from the deduction of zakat.
The concept of sunni 'ushr' (poor-due on land) is also rejected by
shia jurisprudence.

The fact of the matter is that jehad in Kashmir was not started by
any Deobandi maulvi. It was started in October 1947 on the orders of
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Please read Raiders in Kashmir
written by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Akbar Khan, who was given the
task to liberate Kashmir with the help of tribal lashkars . So
Deobandism is no threat and the Deobandis should not be overestimated.

However, I agree with Khaled Ahmed when he says that “a number of
functionaries of the state secretly side with jehadis and have
actually been caught in the act a number of times”. Raiders in Kashmir
tells us that the father of the nation secretly sided with the tribal
lashkars fighting in Kashmir. On page 33 of this book, the writer
reveals that the “Quaid-e-Azam himself also ordered an attack upon
Jammu.” The Quaid-e-Azam supported the mujahids and not the maulvis.

Gulf flesh-traders recruit women from NWFP

Iqbal Khattak
says Pakistani and Afghan girls end up in five-star hotels in Dubai

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A report says Pakistan is the destination point for girls being
trafficked into the country from Bangladesh, Burma, Afghanistan and
the Central Asian States. It is also the transit point for girls
brought in from Far East Asia and Bangladesh before being smuggled
into the Gulf states. The report also says the country has become a
recruiting ground for Pakistani and Afghan girls who are bought here
and taken to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The North West Frontier Province is witnessing a steady rise in cases
of women trafficking for prostitution purposes, reveal surveys done by
some NGOs. While the majority of the girls forced into the trade is
Afghan, the number of native girls is also on the rise.

Last year, a survey conducted by Aurat Foundation, an NGO working on
women’s rights, brought to surface 39 cases of women trafficking in
the NWFP. However, the Foundation spokesperson told TFT the survey was
not comprehensive. “It is extremely difficult to unearth all such
cases for a host of reasons,” she says.

Investigations confirm that Peshawar, Chitral, Swabi, Mardan,
Charsadda, Swat and Bannu districts top the list in the sale and
purchase of girls as young as 13-year-olds. While some are taken to
the Punjab after being “married off” and abused, in most cases they
end up in the Gulf states for prostitution purposes.

Sources say the seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the
fact that a top intelligence agency has been asked to conduct
investigations into the business. As recently as August 16, the police
arrested an Afghan girl and her pimp at Peshawar airport after being
tipped off by this agency.

The man, Murtaza Wasee, is a resident of Saadat Colony in Karachi and
has been booked on the charge trafficking young girls. Misbahuddin,
the coordinator of Citizen Action Committee for Women’s Rights in
Charsadda district, told TFT that last year two cases were reported
when girls sold out to parties in the Punjab fled their captors and
came back. This year, three other cases of girls trafficked to Punjab
have been reported in the district.

In some instances, interested parties take advantage of the poverty of
the parents and the tradition among some tribes of selling off girls
for a price. Some reported cases reveal the girls were married off to
one person who then used them to entertain other customers.

In the federally administered Mohmand Agency, brokers have
traditionally organized a fair where parents bring their girls and the
clients pick them up on the basis of beauty, age and such other
factors. The fair was declared illegal a few years back but it
continues on the sly in many areas of the Agency.

“Parents bring their daughters to the fair where buyers pick up the
best merchandise,” a source at Ghalanai, headquarters of Mohmand
Agency, told TFT earlier this month.

A ‘Situational Analysis’ on trafficking of Women and Children in
Pakistan by ActionAid Pakistan says the issue is grave and complex and
needs to be addressed at various levels. The report says Pakistan is
the destination point for girls being trafficked into the country from
Bangladesh, Burma, Afghanistan and the Central Asian States. It is
also the transit point for girls brought in from Far East Asia and
Bangladesh before being smuggled into the Gulf states. The report also
says the country has become a recruiting ground for Pakistani and
Afghan girls who are bought here and taken to the United Arab Emirates
and Saudi Arabia.

Police officials confirm these findings. A senior police officer from
the Crimes Branch told TFT that scores of Afghan girls are trafficked
to five-star hotels in Dubai every month. “Dubai is where girls from
various countries, including Eastern Europe and Russia, end up,” he
said. This fact was confirmed by TFT last year during a brief stay by
one of its reporters at one of the five-start hotels in Dubai. The
hotel’s discotheque was teeming with girls who were being picked up by
clients.

In the case of girls trafficked from NWFP, the passports are prepared
at Darra Adamkhel located in the Orakzai Agency on Peshawar-Kohat
Road. Darra is also famous for arms manufacture and smuggling.

Sources in Kabul told TFT that most upper-class Afghan women in that
city have taken to prostitution since falling upon bad days. “Of
course, the trade goes on surreptitiously. It’s the same situation in
Herat and the Mazar,” he said.

Senior police officers admit the trafficking cannot go on without the
collusion of certain law enforcement officials. “There are many
factors involved here. Of course there is the element of corruption.
But there is also the element of poverty and greed of the parents who
are prepared to accept money from unknown people and marry off their
daughters to strangers. There is nothing the police can do if it looks
like a lawful wedding,” says a senior officer.

Guest Column
Jehad and Urdu press

Hamid Mir,
Editor of Daily Ausaf , is a supporter of Jehad. Here he takes issue
with TFT’s Consulting Editor, Khaled Ahmed, on the relationship
between the jehadis and the maulvis and the position of Urdu and
English journalists

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have personally interviewed Osama bin Ladin many times. He was the
first person who suggested an alliance of the Taliban and Iran four
years ago against the United States. When his interview was published
in@si Daily Pakistan@ei , many local maulvis started criticising him.
Now the American and Israeli press is claiming that Osama has
established links with Hizbullah of Lebanon (a Shia jehadi group).
These links also prove that the jehadis don’t believe in sectarianism

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Khaled Ahmed (TFT August 24 - 30, 2001) objected to the jihad in
Kashmir and commented on the role of Urdu journalists. He said: “The
commitment of the Urdu journalist to jehad contains a class aspect
which can’t be ignored. When the English language press agonises over
the extremism and defiance of the jehadi groups, the Urdu press
attacks the English press. Its influential columnists deliver warnings
of bodily harm to the writers in the English press for adopting an
anti-Islamic posture on the behest of Pakistan’s enemies.”

My views differ from his. The commitment of Urdu journalists to jehad
is not based on class differences. While a majority of rich Pakistanis
are not too bothered about Kashmir, common Pakistanis are, as Pamela
Constable of The Washington Post noted some time ago. But many rich
people also support the jehad in Kashmir. In fact, some have sent
their sons to Kashmir to fight against the Indian army.

Nor can we divide the support for jehad into Urdu/English-medium
terms. There are many Urdu journalists who oppose jehad and there are
many English journalists who support jehad in Kashmir. Irshad Ahmed
Haqqani, Hassan Nisar, Nazir Naji and Khurshid Nadim of Jang ,
Abdullah Malik of Nawa-i-Waqt , Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami of Pakistan ,
Raja Anwar of Khabrain and Ahmed Bashir of Nia Zamana are known
critics of jehad in the Urdu press. On the other side, Ikram Sehgal
and Hamayn Gauhar of The Nation and Nasim Zehra of The News are vocal
supporters of jehad in the English press.

A majority of Urdu and English columnists are corrupt, some are on the
payroll of different political parties and/or government ministries
while others are regular employees of powerful NGOs. They project the
interests of their masters; they are not interested in knowing how
many people have been killed and how many women raped in Kashmir.
Although a majority of them is silent on the situation in Kashmir,
most of them don’t openly oppose jehad because they know the level of
public support for this noble cause.

This impression is also wrong that all the boys fighting in Kashmir
are young maulvis produced by deeni madaris . Take the example of
Hafiz Saeed, head of the Lashkir-e-Tayyaba. He has a BSc. Engineering
degree and is an ex-university professor. Syed Salahuddin, head of the
Hizbul Mujahideen is an M.A. in political science from Srinagar
University. Bakht Zameen, head of the Al-Badar Mujahideen is a law
graduate from Karachi University. Sheikh Saeed of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen
(who was released after the hijacking of Indian plane in December
1999) is a graduate of the London School of Economics. He left England
and went to Kashmir to fight for the cause because he was convinced
that Indian security forces were violating human rights with impunity.
Asked why had done so, he read a verse from the Holy Quran (
An-Nisa:75 )- “And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the
cause of Allah, and for those weak, ill treated and oppressed among
men, women and children, whose cry is: Our Lord! Rescue us from this
town whose people are oppressors and raise for us from you one who
will protect, and raise for us from you one who will help .”

A western-educated person like Sheikh Saeed is convinced that when the
weak are being oppressed and persecuted in any part of the world, it
is obligatory to fight against the oppressors till they (the weak) are
delivered from this oppression and brutality. Whey don’t the critics
of jehad understand that this is the reaction against oppression? In
each case – Kashmir, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan – the Muslim
populations of those countries turned to armed struggle after their
land was invaded and they were subjected to brutal oppression: denial
of political rights, denial of basic freedoms, human rights abuses on
a massive scale, even genocide. Thus in each case the resort to
militancy was a defensive exercise, to ensure survival. In no case did
Muslims take up arms with offensive intention. So the support and
commitment to jehad is based on human rights, not on class
differences.

Khaled Ahmed further says in his analysis that: “The governments have
not been able to act effectively against the terrorism radiating from
jehadi organizations. After the development of sectarianism within
jehad, it has been impossible to either contain them or bring to
justice those who have killed in the name of sect.”

This comment is misconceived. There is no relationship between jehad
and sectarianism. Jehad unites us and sectarianism divides us. All the
prominent jehadi organizations are against sectarianism. This is an
open secret. Lashkar-e-Tayyaba invites all the prominent scholars of
Ahl-i-Hadith, Deobandi, Barelvi and Shia schools of thought to their
annual meeting and they offer prayers jointly in Muridke. The Hizbul
Mujahideen has Sunni commanders along with Shia commanders. The United
Jehad Council is an umbrella organisation of 14 jehadi groups. One of
them is Hizbul Momenin, a Shia outfit, headed by commander Shuja
Abbas, a well educated person.

It is true that the Jaish-e-Muhammad group had links with the
Sipah-e-Sahaba. But these links were criticised by the other groups
and that’s why Jaish was not allowed to become a member of the United
Jehad Council. The UGC realises that sectarianism is poisonous for
jehad purposes. It is therefore expelling all those affiliated with
the Sipah-e-Sahaba previously.

I have personally interviewed Osama bin Ladin many times. He was the
first person who suggested an alliance of the Taliban and Iran four
years ago against the United States. When his interview was published
in Daily Pakistan , many local maulvis started criticising him. Now
the American and Israeli press is claiming that Osama has established
links with Hizbullah of Lebanon (a Shia jehadi group). These links
also prove that the jehadis don’t believe in sectarianism. Those
organizations who demand that all Shias in Pakistan be declared
non-Muslims, are sectarian organisations. They are not jehadi
organisations.

Khaled Ahmed projected the threat of Deobandism to the state of
Pakistan. He says “there is no defence against the purity of
Deobandism. That the state of Pakistan is threatened not so much by
India but by Afghanistan may not be clear to the Pakistani
establishment yet, but its reality will become more and more palpable
in the future.”

It is, however, interesting to note that the biggest Deobandi party,
the JUI(F), is confused about the issue of jehad. It supports the
jehad in Afghanistan but opposes the jehad in Kashmir. Thus when the
JUI(F) organised an international Deoband conference last April in
Peshawar, the chief guest was Maulana Asad Madni, head of
Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind. But when he expressed views against
jehad-e-Kashmir in Multan he was criticised by the
Harkat-ul-Mujahideen whose leader Farooq Kashmiri himself is a
Deobandi.

The head of the JUI(F), Maulana Fazal-ul-Rehman is a friend of mine.
He is an admirer of Khaled Ahmed because he too is a critic of
jehad-e-Kashmir. The fact of the matter is that jehad in Kashmir was
not started by any Deobandi maulvi. It was started in October 1947 on
the orders of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Please read Raiders in
Kashmir written by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Akbar Khan, who was given
the task to liberate Kashmir with the help of tribal lashkars . So
Deobandism is no threat and the Deobandis should not be overestimated.

Shaboodien Roomaney
Why I embraced Islam

GUGULETU in Cape Town, South Africa, is a place of people, colour and
noise. I had been warned of a pending workers stay-away in this area
which resulted in visions of military vehicles and donkeys crossing my
politically sensitive mind. I had to go and meet someone. So I went.
Mtutuzeni Hassan Ghila was born in the nominally independent Transkei
area of South Africa in 1912. He left this place as a youngster and
headed towards the Cape in pursuit of some form of employment. He
found work as a labourer in different areas although nothing firm ever
materialised.

What interested him more than work, however, was religion. He found
his enquiring mind restlessly seeking more and more knowledge on a
wide range of subjects. A devout Christian at the time, he was puzzled
by quite a few inconsistencies. Profound knowledge of Xhosa mythology
deepened his sense of wonderment. When he started to recall the past,
my colleagues and I sat back and let the tape roll. His description of
the little nooks and corners of his historically colourful past
unfolded before us. This is how it went:

"I ended up in the village of Paarl near Cape Town. The rank injustice
of the period was overwhelming. I was the regional secretary of the
ANC and had organised the people. There were about 5000 people in
Paarl at the time. There were as many people, even whites, who had
joined the organisation".

"My search for the truth could not be accommodated by Christianity and
I found myself speaking to a rabbi of the Jewish faith. His lack of
knowledge was shocking. He asked me whether Zulus were Xhosas!

"I was walking down Lady Grey Street in Paarl one day and heard an
unfamiliar sound emanating from a dome-shaped building. I waited for a
tall man with a white fez to step down from the minaret and asked him
what he was doing up there. He told me that he was calling the
faithful to prayer. He said that, as Muslims, the Almighty was first
praised and then Muslims were called to prayer. Muslims did not ring
bells!"

Hassan then went on to relate a story of an ancestor whose Xhosa
incantations sounded very much like the Azan (call to prayer) "You are
Great, You are Great, You in Heaven, You are Great," I immediately
realised that these ancestors were actually Muslims and that therefore
we are all Muslims.

Hassan realised that for political freedom one had to be spiritually
free. However, there were endless hurdles to be crossed. He had to
endure much ridicule from Muslims themselves at the time.

"I used to wear a red kuffiyah (head dress) and people used to abuse
me because of this. There was a lot of prejudice around at this time.
I was asked many times why I was wearing a fez and upon telling them
that I was a Muslim, they used to mock me, "Only Malays and Indians
were accepted as Muslims." I said to them that being a native did not
mean that I could not be a Muslim."

Hardships did not end here. His presence as a Muslim in the black
Nyanga residence irked many.

He was hauled before the management and asked to explain his
involvement. If he persisted, he had to go and live in Rylands where
all the other Muslims were living, he was told. "I told them that if
that were the case, then all those who were Christians in the
residences should also live in white areas. They did not like my
attitude and I was expelled from the place. I had to go and live in
the bush. Alhamdu-Lillah, I converted even more people there." Hassan
took these people to the Habibia Mosque in the predominantly Muslim
Rylands suburb and also to Al Jaamia Mosque in a Cape suburb. This is
also where he met Imam Abdullah Haroon who was later martyred when he
was murdered in security police custody. "This man was an inspiration
to me. His untimely departure was a loss to us all."

He has no complex and involved political ideologies towards which he
leans. All he cares about is justice.

"Of course we do not hate the whites; it is domination that hurts us
most. And this we must fight against. This we can only do if we base
our lives on striving for the truth."

At this point he related a story of his attempt to inculcate his new
found values amongst his comrades in the ANC and insisted that all
meetings be started with a prayer.

"My comrades were shocked at my suggestion. They had strong
communistic leanings and the concept of prayer was anathema to them.
They wanted to know from me why I had embraced Islam and how I had
benefited. "Obviously, they did not like my answers and I was forced
to leave."

Their deviation from the original aims of the ANC left them on their
own. This was one of the factors that led to the formation of the
Pan-Africanist Congress according to Hassan. What of the future of
Islam?

"I have hope for Muslims. We should all be steadfast in our quest for
justice. This is the only way in which we can liberate ourselves."

The neat little flatlet belies the great man that occupies it. On his
bed lay a copy of the Holy Qur’an and a few other Islamic books.

The man is a true human. He is also a Muslim who sets a high standard
for others to follow. (Courtesy the Message)

Sad.These girls are doing what allah sanctioned for nonmuslim girls.
Allah accpepted and promoted prostitution for nonmuslims:

See:

[an-Nur 24:33] And let those who do not find the means to marry keep
chaste until Allah makes them free from want out of His grace. And (as
for) those who ask for a writing from among those whom your right
hands possess, give them the writing if you know any good in them, and
give them of the wealth of Allah which He has given you; and do not
compel your slave girls to prostitution, when they desire to keep
chaste, in order to seek the frail good of this world's life; and
whoever compels them, then surely after their compulsion Allah is
Forgiving, Merciful.

Crazy allah says " do not force slave girls into prostitution for the
sake of money!"!!! But if you do, crzy allah will forgive the
girls!!!! Nothing as apunishment for the man as he is a muslim and a
man!!! Muslims cant be slaves, remember! A slave is a nonmuslim!
Muslims cant be forced into prostitution either!!! From God?!!
