I am appalled that the sender of this mail sought to insult the collective intelligence of all who received it. I have no doubt that he/she is up to mischief. First, I am unable to decipher his/her actual identity from the mail because Exeter is hardly a name from any part of Nigeria. Second, without attaching the actual speech, he/she expects readers to take his/her comments hook, line and sinker. Third, from the excepts, I am at loss as to the Nowa's offending line of reasoning. You may do well to explain yourself further before you do irrevocable damage to your image. Whoever you are, you must know that this forum have many people of no mean intelligence and integrity. It takes good reasoning and erudite arrangement of facts to gain influence. This piece is a hogwash and should be discarded with ignominy and without merit.

First of all, you seem to be new to the net and so you do not know Nowa
Omoigui and his baggage of deceits and lies against the Igbos. Second, you
are an Edo tribesman, and so I could not expect you to be neutral in your
take on this. I am aware that an old woman is always nervous when dry bones
are mentioned in a proverb!! Do you still remember "Things Fall Apart?" As
for you asking "where" was the speech, I am at a loss what you have been
smoking? The whole text is the dastardly speech that was made by Nowamgbe
Omoigui in his own words and unedited by anybody. This is not the first time
that Nowa has used the tragedy of the Igbos to lampoon them as a race and to
vent his hatred of them. This particaulr speech was made by Nowamgbe in
front of a gathering of many Nigerian women and children during an
Independence Day celebration. From all that I know, such an ocassion calls
for joy and understanding among all the citizens of a country, but Nowamgbe
Omoigui (a man from the Edo minority tribe of the Mid-West) chose to use
that ocassion to assault and blaspheme the Igbos. DO YOU NOW SEE WHY WE MUST
REMIND EVERBODY OF THE EVIL THAT IS NOWAMGBE OMOIGUI?
Finally, I have taken the time and with great pain to explain to you what
you did not seem to know before you jumped into it. Nowa Omoigui, from the
Edo minority tribe declared war on the Igbos a long time ago, and he will
have no moments rest until he is dealt with. I will advice you to take this
information with you and go your own way. I have no interest in any argument
with you over what is a simple fact. But if you chose to return to this
topic again, I will not be so accomodating to you. When it comes to the
matter of the Igbos, I take no prisoners, and I can deliver a very
uncomfortable medicine. Ask Mullah Hamza Umaru, Sheri "6" Dosumu, or Santos
"Ughatown" Ezembakwe!

As provocative as it is, please do not dignify this
nonsense with a response. "Exeter", the attention
seeking, alleged Igboman, seems to think that he has
rights which others don't. Presumably, Midwesterners
take prisoners when it comes to their security and
welfare, while he does not. He has the right to
invade the Midwest and pillage its lands and people.
But the Midwest does not have the right to throw him
out. That is the misguided arrogance he brings to the
table. We can tell him things about himself he does
not know. But that is for another day. May God
forgive him because he does not know.
The speech was informed at that time by the debate on
regional armies in a multiethnic society. That is why
I was asked to review the literature on the Midwest
experience with 'area commands'. I could as well have
used other examples. Tragically enough, just today, in
a battle between Benue and Taraba states, about 20
soldiers of the Nigerian army deployed for peace
keeping, have been kidnapped and murdered by local
militia.
The same speech he is referring to was attended by
many Igbos, heavily applauded, supported by a gallery
exhibition of original photographs from the sixties,
used numerous references written by Igbo authors as
well as others who fought for Biafra, and
non-Nigerians. Hardly any three sentences went by
without a reference. No major Igbo written source of
information available at that time was ignored. Not
one. ALL were quoted. The speech was proof read by no
less than five different Igbo colleagues BEFORE it was
delivered.
That same speech has been widely praised all over the
world by other Igbos and non-Igbos and non-Nigerians
who can read and understand what they read. Truth is
bitter. But those who bury their heads and ignore
history are condemned to repeat it.
Mr Exeter ignores the source material and attacks the
person who is quoting the source. Why not go after
Madiebo, Ojukwu, Gbulie, Ademoyega, and others,
including the former Head of Biafran Intelligence, and
the former Secretary to the Government of Biafra for
what they wrote and published. If there is a single
historical description in that speech that is not
backed by a reference, have him point it out. Tell
him to quote a single page or line in any book or
paper that was misquoted. No! He won't and can't. If
a reference does not fit with his extremist
fundamentalist ethnic pre-conception it is not valid.
He expects that one should write a paper about a
conflict between two sides and then ignore information
from one side. If any source is non-Igbo it cannot be
true. Thus Gowon, Garba, Ejoor, Ogbemudia, Obasanjo
and others, including neutral British journalists and
diplomatic sources, should all be ignored and Exeter's
relatives quoted. As for original midwestern sources,
they have no value since we are bloody minorities.
When we are victims of genocide perpetrated by some of
his colleagues it does not count.
Even when facts are staring him in the face he prefers
frivolous side shows, wallowing in his own propaganda
and self pity. If you do not see an issue the same way
he does you must be anti-Igbo. If a dog barks at him
on the street when he tries to piss in public, the dog
must be anti-Igbo. That is his psychology. Pitiful.
What saddens me with some people is their failure to
spend anytime reading. When others read and use
information that is out there for everyone to read and
use, they go berserk, grab their tribal spears and
start chanting. But when they eventually get to read
and confirm what you have written they keep quiet
rather than admit fault.
Hear him carefully. He does not see the Midwest as a
partner in progress. He is saying Iduland is
cannonfodder for others. We second class citizens are
footmats for the agenda of others. We? We! Is that
not a joke? When the so called SNC is eventually
convened Exeter expects us to roll over and ask his
village to send us a leader. That is his dream, so
that he can acquire some more living space. Lets wait
and see how he goes about it. This is one reason
Nigeria will find it hard to get anywhere.
I fear that he may bring an avalanche of ferocious
attacks against himself from the Midwestern world and
others who know the facts, but I appeal for calm from
all. Lets move on and leave him in his fools'
paradise. Although he has one or two fellow clowns,
he is not representative of Igbos in general. He is
"Exeter", pure and simple.
I must go now. I have absolutely no apologies for
that well researched, well written and well delivered
speech. Exeter must be mistaken to think
Midwesterners will interpret the events of those dark
days through his own sectional prism. He will go to
his grave reflecting on the message of that speech.
Never again. Never.

was over my views about the Edo girls prostitution business, when some of
the language used by some of my Edo brothers - you included - were as
intolerant as some of what we are reading from Exeter and his hateful
neo-Biafran ilk. Some of you threatened Blue Murder and all kinds of
atavism, and started to circle the wagon.
But again I thank you anyway for liking my piece. The important point is
that we must all take criticism in stride and not threaten elimination of
other people simply because they differ from us in views.

I have finally had the chance to read Colonel Bako's
account in: http://www.gamji.com/oct13-8.htm.
Let me state that I completely condemn any form of
atrocity no matter how remote the atrocity. The type
of atrocity narrated by Col Bako, if found to be true,
should be condemned by all people and lovers of
justice, fairness, equity and human rights. These are
the reasons Oputa Panel was set up, and I personally
recommend all who were aggrieved to come forward to
voice their grievances.
I want to take the liberty to request the people who
had read the Col Bako's report to also read some of
the numerous atrocities, pogroms and genocide
perpetrated by nigeria and nigerians on the Igbo race
and Biafrans. Here is a random selection (5%) of some
of the pogroms, atrocities and genocide, as reported
in various world media press at the time:
“In some areas outside the east... Ibos were killed by
local people with at least the acquiescence of the
federal forces... 1000 Ibo civilians perished in Benin
in this way” (New York Review, 21 December 1967)
" after the federal take over of Benin... troops
killed about 500 Ibo civilians after a house-to-house
search" (Washington Morning Post, 27 September, 1967)
"The greatest single massacre occurred in the Ibo town
of Asaba where 700 Ibo male were lined up and shot"
(London Observer, 21 January, 1968)
"Federal troops... killed, or stood by while mobs
killed, more than 5000 Ibos in Wari, Sapele, Agbor..."
(New York Times, 10th January, 1968)
"There has been genocide on the occasion of the 1966
massacres... the region between the towns of Benin and
Asaba where only widows and orphans remain, federal
troops having, for unknown reasons, massacred all the
men" (Le Monde, 5th April, 1968)
"In Calabar... federal forces shot at least 1000 and
perhaps 2000 Ibos, most of them civilians" (New York
Times, 18th January, 1968).
"Bestialities and indignities of all kinds were
visited on Biafrans in 1966. In Ikeja Barracks
(Western Nigeria) Biafrans were forcibly fed on a
mixture of human urine and feaces. In Northern Nigeria
numerous Biafran house-wives and nursing mothers were
raped before their husbands and children. Young girls
were abducted from their homes, working places and
schools and forced into sexual intercourse with sick,
demented and leprous men. Mr. Erif Spiff (Eye
witness, 1966)
"There has been genocide, for example on the occasion

badly [from the fighting]. Firstly the region
between the towns of Benin and asaba where only widows

"... 650 refugee camps... contained about 700,000
haggard bundles of human flotsam waiting hopelessly
for a meal, outside the camps... was the reminder of
an estimated four and a half to five million
displaced persons... the kwasiokor scourge... a
million and half children... suffer(ed) from it during
January; that put the forecast death toll at another
300,000 children... More than the pogroms of 1966,
more than the war casualties, more than the terror
bombings, it was the experience of watching
helplessly their children waste away and die that gave
birth to... a deep and unrelenting loathing... It is a
feeling that will one day reap a bitter harvest
unless... " (Frederick Forsyth, Umuahia, Biafra
January 1969)
"...I saw several hundred of Zombie-like creatures
-men, women and children, lying, sitting or squatting
in the midst of others who were dead. The living ones
were completely reduced to skeletons and could not
talk. I was seeing for the first time...
kwashiorkor... Frankly, I took fright... I believe
that any foreign troops from anywhere in the world
occupying Ikot Ekpene or any other town in Biafra
would have shown much more sympathy..." (Gen. Alex
Madiebo, Ikot Ekpene, July 1968)
"One word now describes the policy of the Nigerian
military government towards secessionist Biafra:
genocide. It is ugly and extreme but it is the only
word which fits Nigeria’s decision to stop the
International Committee of the red Cross, and other
relief agencies, from flying food to Biafra ..."

"The loss of life from starvation continues at more
than 10,000 persons per day - over 1,000,000 lives in
recent months. Without emergency measures now, the
number will climb to 25,000 per day within a month -
and some 2,000,000 deaths by the end of the year.

people caught in the passion of fratricidal war."

greater humanitarian aid to Nigeria - Biafra and

when our troops march into the centre of Ibo

do not move... " ( Benjamin Adekunle. Commander, 3rd
Marine Commando Division, Nigerian Army).
"...The war aim and (final) solution properly speaking
of the entire problem...is to discriminate against the
Ibos and in their own interest. Such discrimination
would include above all the detachment of those
oil-rich territories in the Eastern Region... in
addition, the Ibos' freedom of movement would be
restricted, to prevent their renewed penetration into
other parts... leaving any access to the sea to the
Ibos... is quite out of the question..." (Federal
Nigerian Minister to E. C. Schwarzenback, Swiss Review
of Africa, February 1968)
"Let us go and crush them. We will pillage their
property, rape their womenfolk, kill off their
menfolk and leave them uselessly weeping. We will
complete the pogrom of 1966" (The theme song of Radio
Kaduna, government-controlled, 1967-1970).

level does not penetrate very deep: a lagos police
officer was quoted last month as saying that ‘the
Ibos must be considerably reduced in number" Dr Conor

something of what lay behind this intransigence:
"Among the large majority hailing from that tribe
(Yorubas) who are most vocal in inciting the complete
extermination of the Ibos, I often heard remarks that

I have my mail box overflowing with the weekend's mail
traffic. Only a full time mail reader can keep up with the
fury.
I have, just read Colonel Bako's account of his
experiences in Elele prior to the war (october 1966).
We must condemn any atrocity perpetrated on innocent
beings. Having condemned such atrocity as narrated by
Mr. Bako, it is important that we examine the conditions
prevailing in the country when the alleged atrocity was
committed. Mr. Bako was of the view that Gen. Ojukwu
was somehow to blame. It is imperative we recall that by
october 3, 1966, the killings of Igbo army officers and civilians had
taken place. Was it a justification for the revenge in Elele? No! There
is no justification for killing innocent people - whatever maybe the
provocation. What was Gen. Ojukwu to do when the atrocities on Ndiigbo
in other parts of nigeria was in the news? Shouldn't he not tell non-indigenes
about the inability of the government of eastern nigeria to guarantee their
safety? It was very unfortunate for what happened to Bako's family.
I am also concerned about Bako's attempt to exonerate the Ikwerre
people, (who speak a dialect of Igbo and are a part of Igbo nation) only to
rope in my kinsmen -
Abriba people. I see it nothing more than a continuation of the northern
elements'
effort to preach the non-Igboness of the Igbo people outside the so called
SE political
zone. Oil politics one may say. I am further troubled why one would think that
Abriba people should travel all the way (Abriba is 72 miles north-east of Aba)
to Elele on October 3, 1966 to kill Hausa people leaving those resident in
Umuahia,
a mere 32 miles from Abriba.
Before the war, it took more than four hours by "mammy-wagon" to travel to
Aba from
my area. From Aba to Elele is a few miles of pre-war roads. Is Bako
suggesting that
the government of eastern Nigeria on october 3, 1966 (before the shooting
war started)
provided transportation to Abriba people to go to Elele to kill Hausa
people? I don't know
of any individual that would have organized free transportation to Abriba
people to go to
Elele for head-hunting.
I must point out that raising my personal concerns about Bako's testimony
does not mean
that I doubt that there was a mob reaction in the east to the events that
were taking place in all
parts of nigeria during the period. The Oputa panel is a good avenue for us
to learn more. Just like
we decry the murders of innocent Ndiigbo in the north (50,000 or more) we
do condemn such atrocity
in Igbo land. For such atrocities, we would like to have the organizers
(the real brains behind them) to
be made public. It will be good for all nigerians that we don't cover up
the evidence of such atrocities.
Unfortunately, despite all said, the killings of Ndiigbo in the north
continues even as we speak. Who
knows how long it will take for people in some isolated areas of the east
to react to such atrocities?
As much as such events should be condemned, we must also note the reactions
to be isolated cases.
I wish Mr. Bako and more Arewa representatives could have thrown more light
on the issues of nigerias soldiers
murdering innocent people. As a matter of fact, I feel more innocent
Ndiigbo civilians were murdered
(by nigerian soldiers) in groups of ten or less people a time than the
total murdered in the larger group
massacres as occurred in Asaba, Obegu, Item etc.

Thanks for trying to sell us your portrait of Nowa. It is only unfortunate that your portrait fall short of what you think Nowa is. For us in this forum, Nowa is a personification of all that is good. He is a true Edo and Nigerian. He speaks his mind unapologetically and appends his name to his speech. That's a sign of strength and belief in what you know and believe. He does not use a pseudo name or alias such as "Exeter" or "New Castle". That is the Edo man we know.
After the purported speech, was there no time for rebuttal? If there was one, why didn't you direct your disapproval of the speech to Nowa? Why must you stupidly expose your ignorance of Nowa to disrupt this forum of erudite individuals? Sometimes, in an attempt to be all knowing, we make a fool of ourselves. There was no justification for such stupidity. If you had an ax to grind with Nowa, you should have directed same to him. We know Nowa has enough tenacity necessary to deal with you squarely.
Please we know Nowa more than you think you know him. Nobody in this forum buys anything you said. I am sorry you wasted your time and Internet hour to say all you said about our dear Edo son and unquestionable Nigeria patriot.
