Sinhala nationalists reacted venomously on Monday (6th April, 98)
to a plea by several Tamil citizen's organisations to the new Indian
government to help resolve the conflict in Sri Lanka.
Around 35 Tamil organisations had written a joint letter to Indian
Prime Minister Atal Vajpayee, saying that the Tamil people were
being persecuted by the Sri Lankan security forces, and that the
two major Sri Lankan political parties (which are Sinhala
dominated) did not respect their democratic rights.
