There was a front-page story in the St. John's
The Telegram newspaper this Saturday that says
some Beothuk DNA may survive in the Mi'kmaq
people, especially in western Newfoundland,
and in Iceland.
Years ago I divined that Sarah McLachlan has
a Beothuk maternal line. Her birth mother
is from Howley in western Newfoundland, a
region in which many (one article says more
than 60,000) have applied for membership
in a new Mi'kmaq band, the Qalipu First Nation.
So it is possible that Sarah does have a
Beothuk maternal line. However note that
my divinations have been mostly inaccurate.
