Thru FEBRUARY 25th - "Venezuela: A National Cinema Emerges", highlights
eight feature films and documentaries, including works by Margot
Benacerraf, Roman Chalbaud, and Diego Risquez. The series runs through

]Thru FEBRUARY 28th - "Art in the Masses...For the Masses", exhibit
celebrates the 50 year career of social activist and artist Carlos
Cortez, featuring his lino-cut prints done in the style attributed to
the Mexican production of the 1920's. At the Dittmar Memorial Gallery,

Thru MARCH 5th - "Los Gallos", exhibit of photographs by Henry
Cisneros. This series of photos concentrates on the theme of
cockfights, especially as they are found in Mexico. At the Chicago

Thru MARCH 24th - "Expreciones del Jacal de Montreal" by Bences &

includes a traveling exhibition. Curated by Joyce Fernandes,

Thru MAY 28th - "The Amate Tradition: Innovation and Dissent in Mexican
Art", exhibition of sixty contemporary amate paintings created by Nahua
artists from Alto Balsas in the state of Guerrero. Demonstrations of
amate painting to be held on April 18th-30th and May2nd-14th. At the

MARCH 2nd - Leadership Development Program of the Midwest/Northeast
Voter Registration Education Project is accepting applications for it's
next Leadership cycle which starts March 2nd, 1995. Running for 15 week
these sessions brings Latinos and Latinas to learn, explore and analyze

Presented by Beatriz Badikian, Assistant Professor from Roosevelt

The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum seeks young Mexican professionals
who wish to cultivate and promote their knowledge and appreciation of
the Mexican culture. The OpanoMexica (o-pa-no-me-shi-ka) is the
museum's new auxiliary group of professionals united to promote the
arts and culture of Mexico and the Mexican communities of the US. To
join you must enroll as a member of the museum and pay $20 membership
fee to OpanoMexica. In addition to museum benefits OpanoMexica members
are invited to sneak previews of upcoming exhibits; private lectures
and performances; seminars and workshops; cultural excursions to Mexico
and will have many opportunities to meet renowned Mexican artists and
