Used-car dealer shot dead in front of wife and friends

By BERNARD SEE

BUTTERWORTH: A used-car dealer was shot dead by a man, believed to be a
hired killer, in the presence of his wife and four friends in Taman
Cengal, Sungai Puyu, here, on Wednesday night.

Ang Kian Sang, 46, was playing mahjong in the compound of his house when
a car stopped in front of his house at 11.50pm. A masked man alighted
from the vehicle, walked towards the gate and called out his name.

When Ang stood up to see who it was, a shot suddenly rang out. He fell
to the ground after being hit in the chest while the man walked back to
the car driven by an accomplice and sped off.

One of his friends gave chase but lost the car after a short distance.
The other friends then rushed Ang to the Seberang Jaya Hospital, where
he died while receiving treatment at the casualty ward.

State CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Mustafa Abdullah said the
motive of the murder had yet to be determined. However, police have not
ruled out the possibility that the incident could be money-related.

"We are hoping to shed some light on the actual motive by interviewing
Ang's wife and friends who had witnessed the shooting that night," he
added.

SAC Mustafa said this was the fifth murder case reported in Penang over
the past nine days.

A post-mortem by forensic pathologist Dr Bhupinder Singh revealed that
Ang died after the bullet hit a vital organ in his body.

In another incident, a 52-year-old factory worker died after a man
slashed him outside his house in Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam, on
Wednesday.
