Gaffney feels that Obama going about denuclearizing the USA too quickly,
Gaffney feels we should keep the nukes and even add to them.
Because we might need all the nukes we have and the following are the
reasons
he gives for his stance.
Brian Lehrer ask Gaffney,
"Give me a foreign policy scenario, where you can envision the USA saying in
effect,
even if not in so many words, you better not take this conventional military
step,
or we will drop a nuclear bomb on your city."
Then Gaffney then goes on to name the countries
the USA could possibly drop a nuclear bomb
on in the future and he goes on to name them.
Russia, China, Iran and Venezuela.
Brian Lehrer ask Gaffney
"You talk about Venezuela, possibly acting badly enough, where we would drop
a nuclear bomb on them."
"Would the USA really threaten Chavez, no matter what Chavez did to his
neighbors, with dropping a bomb
on his Capitol?"
You have to listen to the interview, but remember that Gaffney was one of
the necons, that pushed the invasion of Iraq,
together with Wolfwitz, Perle, Feith, etc, that finally go their way when
Bush II got into the Whitehouse.
The excuse being 9/11.
And here he is talking about a possible dropping of a nuclear bomb on 4
countries, which include Venezuela.

No, unfortunately it is not false. This country believes that a military
solution is the only possible solution for any international issue (to a
hammer, every problem looks like a nail) and furthermore, the standard
"ruling elite" - politicians, business leaders, press - is so despised that
the military, almost by default, is viewed as the only trustworthy folks
left. If this was latinamerica, I would say the country is ripe for a
military coup.
As to the eternal wars, nobody questions the basic premise (why in the world
does the US need to be involved militarily all over the world) and instead
they argue over tactics (whether 30K or 60K more troops are needed to bring
about a "victory" which nobody knows how to define).

The amazing thing is not that these nuts exist (they can be found I'm sure
all over the world) but that 1) they are influential in government and 2)
when they say something as bizarre as dropping a nuclear bomb in Caracas,
they are not laughed off the stage. It is lunacy.

Nuts like Gaffney served in the Reagan Administration, he was a frequent
visitor, advisor
in the Bush II administration, he belongs to PNAC the group.
PNAC targeted Iraq, under Bush I and Clinton, but were not able to pull it
off until Bush II.
IMO, if Jeb Bush, McCain, Palin, etc., come into power,
Gaffney has a real shot at getting what he is advocating.
When we first started to hear about the invasion of Iraq, was not during the
Bush II era,
the one that actually pulled the trigger on Iraq, but prior to that.
They were not able to get traction until Bush II.
Gaffney is not out there on the fringe, when a hard right comes into power,
he's in.
If Gaffney is saying it, out loud, then that is what they are thinking.

No doubt. But the thing is that in the past, empires went to war to MAKE
money. You know what will happen if the US destroys Venezuela: will borrow
billions from the Chinese to rebuild it. Just keep the game going so that
some defense contractors cna make money. It's insane.

I don't whether everything this guy is saying is accurate, some of it is,
obviously.
But he also seems to be suffering from paranoia.

Hard to tell what "truth" is, and that's the problem. Maybe I simply don't
know enough economics, but I'm also concerned with fiat money, with infinite
debt, with massive expropiations from the middle class and the elderly to
benefit bankers, with a system that seems more corrupt and less transparent
all the time. If nobody predicted the last crash (bullshit, IMO, but that's
what they claim) then what about the next one? Are we going to wake up one
morning to find the world changed? Some sort of corralito? It happened in
Argentina, a number of us (not enough, unfortunately) saw the growing debt
and false economy of the 90s as a train wreck to happen sooner or later.
Eventually it did, wiping out a lot of wealth. Could it happen to the US?
Who knows?
This fellow might have a point, it might come down to growing your own
vegetables and raising chickens to survive. Then again, who the fuck knows.

In the video Ruppert credits Castro approach, when as he says Cuba was mired
in the
"special" period, there was a shortage of food, etc.
Castro told his people to utilize every available space to grow food and so
they did, rooftops, backyards.
Places that ordinarily would not be employed to to grow food.
And the Cubans did it.
This was, according to Ruppert Castro decoupled the Cuba economy, as far as
food production
was concerned from the gobal economy and the Cubans made out okay in this
respect.
Even so Ruppert strikes me as a man caught up in his own nightmare.
