Before I went to Laos in May 2006, I was advised by the Lao Ambassador
in Canberra to take my camera and to take as many photo and video to
share with every one on my return. During my trip around Laos, I have
taken about 4000+ photo and many hours of video. Since return to Oz 12
months ago, I have posted many photo but there are still few thousands
more + the many hours of video to be posted.
Here is a list of all the photo and video posted so far as at May
2007. Enjoy them.

Eating crocodile meat in down-under didn't make you grow taller
than those brothers in the pix, hah?

Pao
Dr. Pao,
I have observed your pictures and found some are not appropriate for
your trip and your profile ( status ). Many people would think that
your trip will extend a bridge of peacefully relationship between
Laonai & Laonok, with LPDR , but end up in dancing club. Many people
failed to the trap because women related ( dancing girld for
casalao ). You were singing in the nightclub.
MT
MT,
come on, we are human and we cannot escape the joys and funs in life.
we must understand it is part of our nature.
most people like Dr. Pao who go to laos end up being manipulated for
LPDR gains.
have you see The Ravens: Covert War in Laos by Discovery Times? when
the Ravens went to Laos to meet up with their former Hmong allies in
Long Cheng, they were taken to a Hmong village which was really a Khmu
village. their guide was an ex-colonel for Pathet Lao, who wore a
shirt, "RAVENS." everything was for show and nothing for real
political progress.
like the Ravens, i think dr. pao could not help himself in this
situation. LPDR welcomes former enemies and high profile people
strictly for camera shots to offer the international community as
proof of reconciliation and progress.
i think it is a suicide mission if one is to subject themselves to
LPDR's table of negotiations. there is no negotiation---it will be
merely dictation from LPDR to you.
if you go to laos and end up partying, you will come back with your
life. if you go to laos and end up playing politics, you will be given
a one-way ticket to have tea with phanya.
what were the objectives of dr. pao's visit? if it was for politics,
then i think mt has a point. if it was for vacation, then i think you
have a point.
i think a lot of people assume dr. pao's visit was more political than
pleasure. dr. pao is a voice for human rights. it just does not look
appropriate at all when you have a picture of dr. pao singing at a
club paired next to one of a slaughtered Hmong girl, while the former
is supposed to play the role of liberator.
if i have misspoke, please inform me. maybe we assumed the trip was
for politics and were wrong. maybe we assumed dr. pao was a voice for
and observer of human rights and were wrong.
Are you saying these videos were made by BukPao too?

give drpao a break. after a hard day's work, what a better way to
relax than singing a few songs and do a few lamvong rounds? those
gestures can also be a bridge for peaceful relationships between
laonok-laonai.
why do i have the feeling that there are a whole bunch of laonok( old
and young) enjoying the lao way of life somewhere in VT, LPB, SAVAN or
PAKSe?
Zhen,
i'm sure you wrong here....LOL, take another look at casalao's post.
what i tried to point out to MT is that we are human, and we do have
needs and enjoyment. But the Doc is an honest man, therefore he felt
that he had nothing to hide about where he was and had been to.
LOL...when i said that it is human nature...i had included myself in
the boat that i would not resist for such fun as he
did.....hhahahahaha! and that that is the from an honest man as the
Doc and me......"*smiles*"
Born2beHmong
again, what was the objective of his trip to laos?
if i take the initiative to go to school and learn academically but
end up partying and socializing, do you think that is straying too far
from my goal?
yes, dr. pao is only human, and if he did not go in the conscious of a
human rights voice then there is nothing to criticize.
i am just happy dr. pao is back and not one of those 'gone missing'
statistics like vue mai and others.
Zhen,
come on, all men and women who went to school and learn did party in
some sort of funs. i don't think that any person would just head
straight to school without a bit of fun on the side or way....smiles!
we are men, and it does not matter what position you were in, we do
have needs and enjoyment. take a good look at other leaders in the
world, to see if they are in the same boat.
to be able to understand the nature of an issue or subject, one would
then need to experience and see for one's own eyes as an eyes witness.
i don't believe that we would see the same things or ideals because we
are in difference of gender and point of view and that is why i
protraited it as human nature instead of being specific to a person or
gender...
thanks,
B2BH
To further dissect the pictures, this could be just a feast dedicated
to them as special guests. I view this nothing more than a friendly
"trick" the LPDR play on their guests to get their hormones excited?
I mean...using women to conquer your opponent's weakness was nothing
new. Throughout history, women have been used as a political mean to
achieve objectives. In short...it's part of the LPDR's scheme to lure
the fish into the net one by one. I'm sure Dr. Pao and the rest of
his delegate members will never forget this event.
Needless to say...who would resist these gorgeous looking women? I
don't think anyone of you men here can say you don't like the
pictures. I know I spent a little more time looking at the pictures
with the women than those that doens't....LOL.

Jim,
i agree with your statements and honesty.
Born2beHmong
B2BH,
I respect Dr. pao. We, humenbeing, cannot escape joys and fun but
depend on the circumstance and occasion, vacation or political trip.
He posted and photographed with many LPDR High Ranking Ocfficial but
end up with the mini skirt girls in the nightclub. His status and
profile is unacceptable for this act and photos. He is honest man and
cannot hide but cannot act like that too.
Casalao,
What kind the break he should have ? we don't care how hard and how
hot he was facing, he should stay below or inside the shadow but not
the cool cool place like that.
Dr. Pao, I think only me critique you about your action but you are
one of the HHP. I'm not personally attack you but you should think
twice before you respond me.
zhen,
If Dr. Pao went to Laos only for observation and vacation then he was
right to go to the cool cool place like that. But he was attending Lao
National Construction Fronts Conference( Pasoun kab Xounkang Neo Lao
Xang Xat ).
Jim,
Appreciate your comment too.

I don't beleive LPDR play trick or ask Dr Pao to go to night club .
Dr. Pao stayed right there at Lanexang Hotel which they have snack
Bar .
I beleive Dr. Pao went to that bar just for the evening relaxation
have couple drinks and sang couple songs . He may got little horny or
( nam lie heue ) but I don't think Dr Pao will do anything wrong or do
you Doc .
PXL4LIFE.
Hehehehehe... just calm down and let casalao and others members to
enjoy those dancing firls for a while!!!
As PXL4LIFE said, there are a few nearby club... one just around the
corner from the hotel. One night I went out for some fresh air, just
in front of the hotel, and I almost got picked up!!! I meant... a
charming lady on a scooter came by ...ummm...ummm. I humblily declined
the invitation and she drove on and turn around the corner!.
Since you lot are so interested by the dancing girls... and some even
wanted to know where is that club... It is a good club from my short
visit - just a visit with some of team members - of course- but
nothing else. A friend told me that Khamteum was singing there that
night... so we went to see Khamteum... I have never met him before but
once I Introduce myself, he knew about me from the news on lao TV and
from my past involvement in the Lao music industry (by producing
Bounthineg Manivong's tapes in the 90's). Some of you may not know
but my company produces the FIRST Lao Karaoke in the world in the
early 1990's when there was no Lao fonts - we had to paste each Lao
words - one by one- and it took us 2 weeks just to make one Karaoke
song.
So... I wanted to see Khamteum... and sure enought when we got
there... he was on that stage (but no pic of him on stage). Hence I
could not resist but to share the stage with such legendary singer.
There is another beautiful singer in that Club as well...and she sung
very well... I wanted to sing "Sao Khem Ngum" with her but I had to
leave early... may be next time!!!
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA500560.JPG
After my serenade...
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA500566.JPG
Khamteum came up to shake my hand... He was quite surprise
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA500575.JPG
as the Croc dundee hit town with an old tune - "Seng Deune Teuan Sao"
- and hit the roof of that palce. That song was not heard in Laos for
a long time as I was told. I had sung that songs 4 times in Laos - at
Lanxang hotel, at a Cub in Savannakhet and at a Restaurant in
Vientiane (and this club) - where only the band leader know and
remember the song! I was told that that old song was not heard in
Laos for a long time!.
The owner of the Club was also impressed:
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA500579.JPG
As an old saying, "a picture worth a thousand words" but despite that,
each pic is just ONE piece of the puzzle of the whole picture of the
current Laos... so one needs to take a wide view and think outside
those pics that I posted here.
I just want to share a glimpse of Laos with all... but just a split
glimpse ONLY... eg.a hand washing basin or some dancing girls... Wait
until you see some my video!!! that will become available soon... when
I got time to convert them and post them here...
Life is full of everything...so just continue to enjoy all the many
good things in life!
Pao
and Larry Crazy,
there's no need to be emotional. let's enjoy life today and que sera
sera when tomorrow comes.
Music is an global communication and a wonderful way to move into
different circle. During my trip to Xiengkhouang, my escort,
Singhanakhone, and I kept ourselves occupied with music... and on the
way back, we stop ab a restauarant "Ngua Phao" in Km46 and had a ball
there (video coming later).
I am not a musician but I like music and as I said before, i am one of
the furst few who pushed for lao music around the world. In the 90's,
my company had aLao band cdalled the "Boomerang" featuring Bounthineg
manivong and Thongvone from Oz and we planned to take that band around
the world... when we got to the US, the US custom would not let our
bad intot he US! So, we had to cancelled all our planned concert
around the US. The band did go to Cannada then to France.
After the tour, I set up the Lao Artist Foundation in Oz as my company
had set aside some money from the sale of Bountieng's songs + some
fund raisng that I organise. I handed over the Foundation to my Lao
Artist friends and today, that Foundation is still existing but has
change its name.
Over the years, I noted that just almost every Lao house has a Karaoke
set... the Lao people like to have fun and to sing. So... to mix with
the Lao people, Laonork or Laonai, you have to be able to belt out few
tune and share a laugh. That works wonders:
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA500552.JPG
So, during our trip to Laos, the Laonork delegation stayed at the
Lanexang hotel where there is Lao-deum Band playing every night... the
French group came with their own well known singers and they wanted to
have a singing competition... the Franco-Lao delegation began to show
their talent on that Lanexang stage... the US group was no where to be
seen... so, it is up to the Oz group to challenge the French group.
We have to protect the OZ reputation!!! So, I took on the
challenge... and we sung back and forth for two evening at Lanexang.
Here is at the end of the first night...after all the guests have
gone, the singing continue onto the stage with the band singers vs
Kaham Deng from France and all of us cheering:
http://www.lexicon.net/~lis01085/lao/foto/SA501002.JPG
Furthermore, I even sung at the Neo Lao Sang Xat Gala Dinner!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/61375278@N00/187398195/
All this is just to show that life is not all just serious work,
politic ect... but there can be a lot fun along - and it is just how
you make it to be.
More later..
Pao
Why make a big fuss over those pics? Relax and enjoy them! We should
thank Dr. Pao for sharing them with us.
Bj
I can understand the concern that many people have shared here.
My lao trip is a SERIOUS BUSSINESS that should not be taken lightly.
A lot of thought had gone into it and lots of preparations had to be
put in place from the LPDR side as welll as from my side - not to
mention the cost of the trip.
Just imagine having someone like me roaming around Laos after being
away for more than 30 years and being as vocal on Laos as I have
been. Many people had their neck on the line by inviting me back to
Laos. Nothing was left for chance... but many still had their fingers
crossed all the time when I was in Laos! as you can imagine what can
go wrong! And I understand all of that. Hence, no matter what I
did, I never took my eyes off "the finish line" and everything has to
be carefully managed and I had to thread along a very fine but solid
line.
So with my camera and my words, I hope that I can share a glimpse of
Laos thru my lens - with some shots that may not be able to capture by
others. But as I said before, one must look at the BIG pictures as
each pic here is only a tiny piece of the big puzzle of Laos... and
furthermore each little piece has its meaning but it may be
interpreted many ways, and it is easy to interprete in the wrong way
or be taken totally out of context if we take our eyes off the BIG
picture.
More later...
Cheerio.
Pao
Before we embark on anything, the very least and first step TO
UNDERSTAND the problem.
But to do that all measures and means may need to be considered.
And more than often, we need to go beyond our 5 senses, and look
"outside the box" to really understand.
More later.
