Its interesting that since its establishment in 1994, the Palestinian
Authority has progressively restricted the right to freedom of
expression through a variety of means, including arrest and detention by
various security forces, in particular the Palestinian police, the
General Intelligence (al-mukhabarat al-'amma) and the Preventive
Security Service (PSS). Many detainees have been held incommunicado and
some have been subjected to torture or ill-treatment. Many have been
executed as well.
