WEEDING THE GARDEN
From where comes this desperate need?
The obsession to get every last, single one?
For fear that they might come back,
and make you answer for what you have done?
Is it a sickness, a fetish, a neurotic obsession?
Or is it some form, of demonic possession?
The deep racial instinct, periodically to weed
and prevent the take-over, by an inferior breed
For the same territory, two sides compete
So the elimination must be complete
It was not enough, to drive them into the shadows
Now, you must deprive them, even of those
Weeding out the last hiding places-
The police, peering in the window
for improprieties that need eliminating
But please, come and take a look under my bed-
There is a monster waiting
They say that we should not resent,
That we misunderstand their innocent intent
to protect the public and enforce the law
But the deeper truths, they never saw
It is never just a problem when we misbehave
You secretly wish to see us in our graves
Sins of that kind, you have already committed
You think that it is not true,
just because it is never admitted
Even worse than loveless sex
with strangers, in total anonymity
Was the thought of us ever acquiring
even a shred of respectability
In your politics,
hateful lies, you were peddling
You were even far more frantic,
when weeding out the weddings
We were human dandelions, walking and breathing weeds
Standing falsely accused, of numerous misdeeds
Are you still hunting for the reds?
Don't mind me, I'm just cleaning up the bathroom
and weeding the potato beds
Your fears are largely overblown
We will all be better off,
when the war is done
and the weeds are overgrown
Your belief in your own superior beauty
is largely without merit
Be warned, that after the flood
It is the weeds that will inherit

High Sheriff settles here, as on a sea,
When the parochial calm of sunset chills
The world to its four corners. And the hills
Are green with hops and harvest, and a bitch
Spuddles about a vineyard on a tree;
Here everything grows well. Here the fat land
Has no stone bigger than a ladybug,
No milkweed or wild onion can withstand
The sheriff's men, and sunlight sweats the slug.
Here the rack-renting system has its say:
At nightfall sheep as fat as hogs shall lie
Heaped on the mast and corncobs of the sty
And they will rise and take the landlord's hand;
The bailiff bears the Bell, the Bell, away.

"After Cobbett" refers to William Cobbett (1762-1835). Cobbett
was a man of many identities who is now best known as a radical
political campaigner
Robert Lowell's poem largely takes its inspiration from a
paragraph in the entry for 9 April 1830 in 'Rural Rides'. Robert
Lowell's poem therefore derives its origins and inspiration from
a piece of non-fiction prose writing produced a century earlier.
It is not an autobiographical poem but it contains a private
connection which probably drew Lowell's attention to this entry.
It is headed 'BOSTON' (in Lincolnshire) and the American city of
Boston is where Lowell was born and where his family had strong
local associations.
This is an ordered landscape under complete social control. The
chilling influence of The Lord High Sheriff is found everywhere.
"The sheriff's men" remove every weed with brisk efficiency.
These weeds perhaps, at a subliminal level, represent anything
that might exist in opposition to this highly organised,
economically efficient controlling social system.
Then the politics of the poem explicitly intrude.
The sheep, in a sense, are an image of that ruling class - fat,
sprawled out, enjoying life on land which properly belongs to
others. Again, different meanings jostle together in the same
line. My guess is that there may also be an allusion to Orwell's '
Animal Farm', first published in August 1945 ('Lord Weary's
Castle' was published in December 1946).
And then the last line:
"The bailiff bears the Bell, the Bell, away."
Lowell underlines the politics of the poem. The landowners rule
the Fens through their complete social control and their lackeys.
The bailiff is the sheriff's agent.
I would guess this poem was a kind of five finger exercise for
Lowell. He was drawn to the topic by the arbitrary coincidence
of the Boston connection.

BOSTON PLANS TO CUT DOWN REEDS IN THE BACK BAY FENS WITHIN THE
NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS; WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO GAY MEN?
Boston's Parks and Recreation Department plans to cut down the
reeds and weeds that line the pathway between the Victory
Gardens and the Muddy River in the Back Bay Fens, which forms a
border between the Back Bay and the Fenway neighborhoods, to
make spotting crimes-in-progress easier for patrolling police
officers. The city also plans to increase police patrols in the
area.
According to Mary Hines, spokesperson for the city's Parks and
Recreation Department, the Army Corp is expected to present
finished plans within the next 12 to 18 months, with work
beginning along the river, and, jointly, in the Fens, sometime
in 2007. What this means for the men who frequent the Fens for
sex remains unclear.
Vincent likens the Fens to "lover's lane," that place outdoors
where couples go to neck and have sex. Having sex outdoors, with
the risk of getting caught, can seem exciting and alluring to
some, he said. The Fens, he said, allows men to carry on "the
tradition within the gay community of finding people in non-
standard issue kind of places."
"It's an old tradition," he said, "but it's not Fenway's place
to judge."

My Father Labors In His Garden.
I am along side him. He is the only surviving member of his
family as a result of the Holocaust. We are pulling out the
weeds that have infiltrated the garden. The weeds are spreading
out their roots and devouring the nutrients. The nutrients are
needed by the flowers and vegetables that have begun to grow
amidst the sandy earth and salty air that inhabit our home.
He Is Very Upset.
He is fiercely determined to rid himself of these weeds . . .
with a vengeance. Hoping to make a wish, I tear one weed from
the grass and begin to blow on it, spreading its spores around
the garden. "Don't do that," he screams, "That will only
intensify the problem. The spores plant themselves in the soil
and produce more and more weeds and jeopardize all the other
plants in the garden."
He Is Always Screaming. This is the way he communicates. It is
an endless rage. The scream enters into me in a place where his
communication has meaning. He has transmitted a message to me. I
understand.
He Continues To Scream. "To remove a weed from the garden, you
first plunge the knife into the soil surrounding the weed. Then
position your hand firmly against the earth and rock the knife
back and forth circling the weed to loosen the soil around its
roots - until - the roots of the weed have nothing to adhere
them to the earth."
He Adds, "You Must Be Strong." I begin. He is alongside me. I
grasp the knife. " It is a difficult task and you must not be
afraid of the knife." he cautions. I plunge the knife into the
soil . "Deeper," he says. "You must go deeper into the soil if
you expect to reach the roots of the weed."

The recent increase in security concerns should include your
invasive-control animals. The City of Tallahassee's goat herd
and sheep flock were pilfered twice this summer, despite the
watchful eye of Smoke the guard dog. The first time, the herd
was on kudzu-munching patrol at Tom Brown Park, where the city
shepherd discovered several goats ritualistically slaughtered.
Local law enforcement suspects voodoo practitioners. (No, I'm
not kidding.) Later in the summer, ten sheep disappeared, and
have not been recovered. The flock has now been moved to a
"secret location" for their protection. Better keep an eye out
for wolves in sheep's clothing.

Two weeds have attracted our attention.
Hypericum canariense (Canary Island St. Johnswort) is a shrubby
version of the familiar Hypericum perfoliatum (Klamathweed, St.
Johnswort). This plant is spreading into wildlands in southern

Alliaria petiolata (garlic mustard) is a familiar problem,
especially for those of us in the eastern half of the USA. This
weed also has a toe-hold in the Pacific northwest. Unfortunately,
Alaskans should be aware of this plant too, since we were
contacted by a microcomputer specialist who singlehandedly
eradicated the only known population of this plant in Alaska as
he went into work.

In a particularly convoluted piece of Nazi logic, Heinrich
Himmler put homosexuality under the ideology of racial theory
and racial purity. Drawing upon the fact that Germany had lost
over 2 million men during WWI, thus creating a serious imbalance
in the reproductive sex ratio, he added an estimated 2 million
homosexuals who had doubled the imbalance. Never mind the fact
that they were not going to procreate anyway, Himmler proceeded
to use those facts as a rationale for bringing homosexuality
under Nazi racial policy. Portions of that speech follow:
If you further take into account the facts that I have not yet
mentioned, namely that with a static number of women, we have
two million men too few on account of those who fell in the war,
then you can well imagine how this imbalance of two million
homosexuals and two million war dead, or in other words a lack
of about four million men capable of having sex, has upset the
sexual balance sheet of Germany, and will result in a
catastrophe.
I would like to develop a couple of ideas for you on the question
of homosexuality. There are those homosexuals who take the view:
what I do is my business, a purely private matter. However, all
things which take place in the sexual sphere are not the private
affair of the individual, but signify the life and death of the
nation, signify world power...
After likening the homosexual who was killed and thrown into a
peat bog to the weeding process in a garden, Himmler continued
his tirade:
In the SS, today, we still have about one case of homosexuality
a month. In a whole year, about eight to ten cases occur in the
entire SS. I have now decided upon the following: in each case,
these people will naturally be publicly degraded, expelled, and
handed over to the courts. Following completion of the
punishment imposed by the court, they will be sent, by my order,
to a concentration camp, and they will be shot in the
concentration camp, while attempting to escape. I will make that
known by order to the unit to which the person so infected
belonged. Thereby, I hope finally to have done with persons of
this type in the SS, and the increasingly healthy blood which we
are cultivating for Germany, will be kept pure.
Over the next two years, an intricate network of informants was
developed. School children were encouraged to inform on teachers
they suspected of homosexuality, employers on employees and vice
versa. Homosexuals who were arrested were used to create lists
of homosexuals or suspected homosexuals. The clear intention was
to identify every homosexual in Germany and move them to
concentration camps.
Himmler clearly recognized that these strategies would not solve
the sexual imbalance problem in Germany. Instead, the purpose of
the plan was, in Himmler's own words, to "identify" the
homosexual and remove them from society. He still needed a
rationale for exterminating them. As in the case with the
Gypsies, Himmler fell back on "medical science" as the solution
to the homosexuality problem.

I envisioned P Division as having two roles in the Laboratory.
One was to possess the capability, and the will, to bring
diverse skills and a new outlook to solving problems, whether
enduring dilemmas or new ones, that were of central importance
to the Laboratory's mission- principally, the design and testing
of nuclear weapons. The second role was to help maintain for the
Laboratory a position at the forefront of experimental science

strength but also made P Division an extraordinary combination
of people. The principal challenge was elegantly captured by
Harold Agnew in an informal talk to Laboratory management upon
the announcement of his retirement as Director of the Laboratory.
As I recall his meaning, if not the precise words, he told us
that he had seen his job as "looking to new times and sowing the
seeds for Los Alamos' future. Now with that done, it was time to
do some careful weeding."
Our challenge in P Division was not only to support the "weeding"
process but also (and even more importantly) to nurture the new
plants and to keep excellence as our overarching criterion for
judgment. With this perspective in mind and with Laboratory
organization assuming a new measure of attention, P Division
gradually absorbed major parts of Laser (L) Division's laser-
fusion program and J Division's nuclear-testing diagnostics.

One day as me and my best friend Makenzie were walking home from
a long tiring day at school we saw something move in the weeds.
I thought that it might possibly be a snake so I ran through the
weeds trying to catch it. As Makenzie followed we got off the
path that we used to walk home from school every day and
suddenly without even realizing it stumbled over a dead body
laying along the path of the trail. Makenzie looked at me and we
screamed in horror. We ran back trying to find the trail but
could not find it. The next day we decided to see if the body
was there still. In place of the body there was a note, it was
crumbled up and torn. All I could make out was that it read
"YOU'RE NEXT".
Makenzie and I walked to school and on the way home we
saw the snake that we had chased just yesterday. That's when we
realized that the snake had red eyes. To this day we still can't
figure out where the dead body went, or why that snake had red
eyes.

settlers who came here to Australia, they painted Australian
landscapes, they looked like English gum trees. And I got sick
of the sight of seeing it. If I'm Aboriginal and I'm painting
for Aboriginal children I would like them to know that when they
look at it and they can recognise it as an Australian landscape.
And it's important. This painting is called 'Where The
Wildflowers Once Grew', 'cause they don't grow there no more.
This is where I grew up at Minimbah on the mid North Coast of
NSW near Forster-Tuncurry and that area, where my Aboriginality
comes from. And down there, these wildflowers, there was very
tall gum trees, and the light used to filter down through them.
And underneath those tall trees was all the wildflowers and it
was about up to waist height for an adult and there was every
kind of flower imaginable, it was beautiful. The poachers came
and they came in there and they mined it. Wild flowers don't
grow no more. You've just got weeds. Black fairies really would
have to exist if we could bring back the wildflowers there, I'd
say. Especially in our lifetime because it would take something
magic to put all the wildflowers back. It's another whole new
perspective, I guess, when I paint about fairies. It's softer,
delicate, it's beautiful and all them sorts of things. I think
about different things. I think about pretty flowers and things
like that. Softer things. People might say, well, there's two
sides to people, and things like that - soft sides and hard
sides. And I think there's many different aspects of our nature.
And I just say, well, I'm like a diamond. (Laughs) There's lots
of perspectives to people. Think we all got good and bad and God
knows what. Black fairies maybe let me think that miracles do
happen in life, and I hope that they do. Maybe black magic or
magic does happen in your life some time.

Before planting a Chilopsis linearis (desert willow), which does
not like the cold, Macdonald studied the orientation of
specimens growing at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.
" Some people come here and see a bunch of weeds," John
Macdonald said of his property in Phelan.
" I see plants."

This spring, the yard produced bumper crops of Phacelia,
Urropapus lindleyi (silver puff), Calyptridum monandrum (sand
cress), Krascheninnikovia lanata (winter fat, "furry, with
airborne seeds like a dandelion, but the seeds don't go as far"),
Tetradymia spinosa (cotton thorn, "sharp little devils") and
Pectocarya penicillata (hairy-leaved comb-bur, "difficult to
collect").
Spikes of Yucca whipplei (Our Lord's candle) shot up as much as
1 foot in a day.

POET'S POSTSCRIPT
It is not at all my vision for the gay community, to have
anonymous or unsafe sex, or to be making a nuisance in public
areas. Such things detract from the dignity that we are
trying to win. An issue like the cutting down of weeds
in the Boston's Back Bay Fens is not really the kind of
thing that I care much about- this is a poetic device.
What I do care about so much is not even a more significant
issue like gay marriage. The fuss is over gay marriage
is a symptom of a much larger problem- the entire attitude
taken toward gays, over most of the world, throughout
most of history. Gay marriage is simply the kind of issue
that is effective at revealing the depth of that problem.
I don't doubt for a minute that the police and politicians
would claim how unfair it is to imagine that they bear
any personal animosity against gays. They are just trying
to protect the public against an obvious nuisance.
That is not completely untrue, but it is less than half
of the truth. It is a whitewash. It is lacking in perspective.
The law? Is that the issue? You means like the Massachusetts
law that was written, using phrasing lifted directly from the
Bible, that not only degraded gays, but dehumanized them?
The "abominable and detestable crime against nature", that
made no less than a felony of even private, consensual,
adult gay sex?
Until the United States Supreme Court invalidated that law,
the Massachusetts legislature had deliberately refused to
remove the blatant hate-language from its books, even after
the state's own Court had largely invalidated most applications
of the law. The state's Attorney General defended the law,
telling gays that we did not understand, that it was his
duty to defend all of the laws.
No, it was he who did not understand. You do not defend a law
like that, at all, ever, for any rationalization. You quit your
job, before you defend it. If you do not, any form of response
would have been justified, including the bombing of courts or
the State House.
The reason that the law was not repealed, was because the
Speaker of the House, at the time, was an anti-gay Catholic,
who went out of this way to make sure that a repeal vote
never came up. The response of the news media to this
was not "Let the People vote", but to ignore the fact,
completely. Relatively few people even knew that the vote
was being actively suppressed, thanks to the media
indifference.
When the state's Supreme Court limited the applicability
of the law, in situations where a couple might have
"reasonable expectations" of privacy, in a public setting,
C.J. Doyle of the Catholic Action League whined that this
would allow gays to parade in front of innocent families
and children in the Blue Hills Reservation (a state-owned
area in South, suburban Boston).
The Blue Hills Reservation is an area where gays at one time
met for sexual liaisons. Again- that is a kind of activity
of which I strongly disapprove. However, there were
wrongs cutting in more than one direction.
My married partner and I have long enjoyed going to the
Blue Hills, for the most wholesome of intents - to see the
skyline of Boston, to be in a beautiful and natural setting.
My partner had been accosted several times by police,
who had the attitude that no gay man could possibly be there for
any reason other than for sex in the bushes. He had been told
to leave the area, when he was there for nothing other than to
get a minute of peace.
I've had other friends report the same thing- getting
hassled by hostile police, for the crime of being gay
and being in the wrong place.
Recently, some straight friends asked me why my
partner and I never got wedding rings. We had looked
somewhat, but hadn't found anything that we liked
enough. For me, there was also a another problem.
The finger where a wedding ring would go, had been
broken, and grew back noticeably bent. I had tried
on some rings to see if it would help to hide the
deformity, or would tend to accent it. It tended to
accent it.
The finger had been broken in a assault by four
homophobic men at a golf course, in a nearby town.
They became upset when they had to wait for 2 minutes
while I crossed a public trail adjoining the course.
They said that they "knew I was a faggot" and said
that they would tell the police that I had touched
their thigh, if I tried to call them. I told them
that they were Nazis, and they laughed.
"Yes, we are Nazis", they said. I called the police,
anyway. The men lied through their teeth, and denied
everything that they had said. They didn't attempt
to lie to the police and claim that I had touched them.
Instead, they tried the lie that I had attacked
the four of them, for no reason.
I got a lawyer, and fortunately, for the sake of a
witness who saw the whole thing, prevailed in the
suit against them, and forced them to pay damages.
I will never forget, though, when I related the incident
to my gay lawyer, one of the first things that he said
was "That golf course- isn't that part of the Blue Hills
reservation?"
I responded, "Yes, I guess, so, I wasn't sure", but
I was quite bewildered, what on earth that had to
do with it. I asked him why was that an issue.
He said, "Oh well you are gay and that is the
Blue Hills. That will work against you, in court."
The strange thing is, my gay lawyer didn't seem to
feel any sense of outrage about this, as if this
were something perfectly understandable and normal.
You committed the crime of being gay and being in
the Blue Hills, even if your only thought was
to get a couple minutes of tranquility
in a beautiful, natural setting.
For a gay man, this is one of many, many little
incidents in life that shape our attitudes. If you
want to get a feel, please go back and read carefully,
every line of the above material.
You've got a face covered with blood, while everyday
suburban family men stand there, laughing and
spitting, hurling epithets, bragging about being
Nazis.
Gays are not pushing for too much, they are putting
up with too much. Like my lawyer, they have little
reaction to things that ought to outrage them.
Gays have long been condemned for anonymous and
promiscuous sex, for having unsafe sex. In the name
of "protecting the public", many conservatives would
be happy to recriminalize gays.
You would think, then, that marriage and commitment
would be hailed as a positive breakthrough, something
to the credit of gays, something good for public
health, that might reduce the spread of AIDS.
No, gays are dirty, dirty, dirty, and need their
faced rubbed in it, to prove the point, lest you
might take over like an invasion of weeds.
Not that anyone hates you, or anything like that.
Last summer, I was taking a tour in Eastern Europe,
with some gay travelling companions. One of them described
a case in North Carolina, where a gay man was denied
access to his own, terminally ill, life-partner.
This was in spite of the fact that he had all the
legal papers, including Power-of-Attorney.
The man's partner died, and he was never allowed
to see him.
I asked, simply, in deep anger, "What was the name
of that hospital?"
I must have asked the question with a certain tone of voice,
and a grim, granite expression. My fellow
traveller sat there, looking at me with some
slightly-shocked, widened eyes, as if to say,
"Oh, my God". He realized the kinds of things
that were going through my mind.
Oh, I wouldn't have done anything with the information,
at least, not forseeably. That is because I have a
life-partner whose well-being is more important.
To those who don't believe that gay relationships
can last, it might be wise to hope that they can.
It might be all that stands between them and
a great unpleasantry.
A passionate activist can have a long memory, like
an Irishman. I would never have forgotten the name of
the hospital, not in 30 years. Fortunately,
or unfortunately, the travelling companion
did not remember it.
You will probably not find one gay man in 100,
who realizes that this practice, of denying gay men
access to their own lovers in a hospital, is apparently
not simply an oversight or an accident. In the book,
"Murder in the Vatican", it describes how this practice
was something started, quite consciously and deliberately
by the Catholic Church. They wanted for their priests
to be able to "save" the dying gay man, and didn't
want for any lovers to be getting in the way of this
noble work.
The Catholic Church loves to whine about "anti-Catholic"
attitudes, even in Massachusetts, where they dominate
the population and both houses of the state legislature.
They use their tax-exempt church properties for their
political rally against gay marriage, without even the
slightest cry of "foul".
The property holdings of the Catholic Church, in Boston alone,
probably are worth in excess of the collected net worth of all
the gay organizations in the entire country.
It does not occur to anyone that the Catholic Church is
preaching from its moral high-horse, with a great deal
of gay blood on its hands. The very word, the epithet
"faggot", has its probable origins in the historical
practice of the Catholic Church, of burning gays at
the stake. That is a fact of history for which they have yet
to apologize, just as the state of Massachusetts has yet to
apologize for the centuries that we were labeled as
"abominable" under their laws, or threatened with death.
They would huff that this is ancient history, but it is
more than that. What they are today is very much a
direct legacy of what they used to be.
If they ever should find themselves asking why we did not
forgive them, they should be reminded- It never occurred to you
that you had done anything that needed our forgiveness,
and you had never bothered to ask for it.
Today, the Boston Globe ran an article about two women
in Ireland who petitioned in court to have their marriage
recognized. They noted that Ireland was overwhelmingly
Catholic, but had seemingly grown more distant from the
Vatican. The newspaper article said that some gay
activists in Ireland were more confrontational, but that
these peaceful, "revolutionary" women were more likely
to be effective, because they were non-confrontational.
Gay people hear that rhetoric all the time, so much
that many probably do not even question the truth of it.
"You will never get your way by violence."
"Violence never accomplishes anything."
"Don't push for too much, too soon."
Maybe that is true, but maybe it is not.
We should not take it as a given.
Perhaps gays should be barraged with the messages,
"You are 4 per cent of the population. You will NEVER get
your way through popular vote. You have been been the
most widely and deeply hated group on earth, for 3000 years.
Your unpopularity is due to the general population's
hatefulness, not due to any wrongdoing of your own."
Of course the heterosexual media would like for you to
believe that you will never accomplish anything by
confrontation. That is because they do not want to
have to deal a mass confrontation.
We should maybe say, "We *do* believe in nonviolence.
It is *you* in which we are not sure that we can believe."
There once was a gay man, who gave his life in
a nonviolent protest, burning himself in the traditional
of self-immolating monks, trying to get the Vatican
to take another look at its attitudes, trying to humanize
gays.
Quick, without a doing any internet searches-
What was that man's name? Do you recall?
I didn't think so.
Why should we be eager to follow in that man's footsteps?
What did the Pope do, after a man burned himself to death,
asking for the Vatican to please see the humanity of gays?
The Vatican worked with Muslim nations, who uniformly
put gays in prison, torture them, execute them -
for the sake of blocking the United Nations from making
a simple statement that would have condemned human rights
abuses against gays.
This was not about "gay marriage". We are talking about
things like arbitrary arrest, torture, and killing-
abuses that occur in the very kinds of Muslim countries
that the Vatican enlisted for its support.
What was the media's reaction? In Boston, the supposedly
liberal Globe did not mention it.
When Pope John Paul II died, they hailed him as a
"champion of human rights". I sent an email to the woman
who as ombudsman of the time, reminding about the Vatican's
crusade to block the UN resolution. I got a note back,
admitting that I had a point.
However, still no mention in the paper was ever made, just as
there is scant mention of the widespread of mistreatment of gays
in Muslim countries. There has been no mention at all of gays
being subject to life in prison, in countries like India,
or subjected to witch-hunts in Egypt.
Nonviolence works effectively only in a population that has a
minimal conscience. In the United States, it is a dirty,
barely-mentioned, open secret that there is an entire movement
of Christians who want death penalty for gays. The media would
like to pretend that these are a few harmless cranks, but
they do not mention when prominent pro-family groups are
playing footsy with Reconstructionists. The don't admit
that hese fanatics are a valued contingent in the Republican
party voting base. They don't tell you how these fanatics
have some extremely wealthy backers.
When the media describes the activist Christian,
former Alabama Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore,
they do not mention that his face is all over Reconstructionist
web sites, without his doing anything to have it removed.
They mention only that he is "like a rock star" to conservative
Christians.
The media does not mention when a Congressman has a genocide-advocate
on payroll, or another Congressman is giving a keynote address to
an organization whose leader has openly proposed literal,
anti-gay genocide.
This is not an environment to lend credibility to the promotion
of non-violent solutions.
I would say that if the heterosexual world does not want
for violent confrontation, then it had better not trivialize
and ignore the nonviolent attempts at persuasion.
You might perceive little potential now, which is why
there is a poem, to try to make it more vivid. Sometimes,
a change can come from just a tiny, remaining, overlooked root,
suddenly popping up everywhere, refusing ever to disappear.
