This is one of the great mysteries of the universe, and after
contemplating it for a long while, I STILL haven't come up with a good
answer for why some people are so virulently antisemitic coupled with a
belief in an all powerful Jewish Conspiracy. Is it because so many white
supremacists are such losers that they want somebody to blame it on? And
why the Jews? Why did people suspect the Jews of leading a conspiracy to
cause the Black Death by poisoning water wells? Is it because the Jews
were supposedly the killers of G-d (Jesus) and thus had to be
exterminated? Or are some people just loony? What do the Jews themselves
think about this?

Here are two really great books; coming from quite different points
of view:

1. Jean Paul Sartre "Anti-Semite and Jew"  this book is a masterpiece
of the application of existentialism to the psychology of French
Nationalism and anti-semitism.

2. Dennis Prager, Telushkin "Why the Jews".  Summarizes the various
theories and history to show that behind all the varieties of
antisemitism is really a hatred of Judaism and what that stands for.

If I may, I'd add Father Richard Flannery's "The Anguish of the Jews"
that studies in great detail Antisemitism by the Roman Catholic
church.  A marvelously enlightening read, not to say that Motti's
suggestions aren't also excellent.

I don't think Flannery is available online, since his book is rather
recent (1980's) and copyright laws would probably forbid it.  I'd be REAL
surprised, though, if your local synagogue didn't have a copy.
