During a Saturday broadcast, lifestyle television diva Martha Stewart
panned former lawmaker Sarah Palin, calling her a "dangerous person" who
Stewart "wouldn't watch... if you paid me."

Speaking to CNN, the host of Martha Stewart Living said Palin is "very
boring to me." Having someone so "confused" in government is unsafe, she
said. That makes Palin a "dangerous person."

"She's so confused," Stewart said. "Anyone in government like that is a
real problem."

Reacting to the massive first-day sales of Palin's new book, she added:
"Good for her. Good for her. ... I wouldn't watch her if you paid me."

Either that, or you've been conned.

How does Stewart's pseudo-crime of "insider trading" make her a con
artist?

Is Palin any more a "quitter" than is Obama who didn't finish his term
in the Senate?

Why didn't he finish his term in the senate?

Logic is flawed. :D A con artist can always recognize a con artist.
That doesn't mean a non-con artists cannot recognize a con artist.

Sadly, I have once or twice on, fortunately, minor things. Probably
not abnormal for someone that has reached their 66th birthday.

Why is Stewart's crime considered a pseudo-crime? Seems like the law
is fairly clear that it is a crime.

People often move into a new office when elected from a lower office.
It's not quite the same thing as flat out quitting a govenorship.

Don't confuse the law with justice.

There are generally two kinds of criminal offenses.

One is those which are "malum in se", which is conduct which is evil in
itself, such as murder.

On the other hand, there are those which are "malum prohibitum", or acts
which are illegal simply because someone has managed to get a law passed
which says so.

[On reflection, I now remember that Stewart wasn't actually charged with
"insider trading", but instead that she made "false statements", thereby
"obstructing justice." The original investigation centered on supposed
"insider trading", during which Stewart apparently made the "false
statements" when, in fact, there had been no insider trading in the
first place. So, she was apparently guilty of lying about a crime that
didn't actually take place.]

There are many forms of justice in the world, not all of which is
enshrined in our criminal code. Insider trading happens to be so
enshrined.

I am well aware of this, but it doesn't change the basic fact that
insider trading is a crime.

You asked why I called it a "pseudo-crime", and I told you.

It's a crime simply because someone who didn't like the behavior had the
clout to have it made illegal.

Since it is a crime under our criminal code, I can't agree.

That would be the way things become crimes, yes. Surely you can see
where her fellow stockholders were put at a great disadvantage without
the same information that she had, or the poor slobs that she sold her
shares to while she knew that the company was in a tailspin. Those
are the reasons insider trading was made illegal. Somewhat akin to
selling you my house, without notifying you that the plumbing was
about to fall apart. I had knowledge that you needed to make an
informed decision.
