Description: Discussion of Jewish culture and religion. (Moderated)

Why do Jews intermarry?
Quote: Over the past half century, intermarriage has become increasingly common in the United States among all religions - but among Jews at a higher rate than any other. Why that is the case is one of the questions Naomi Schaefer Riley probes in her new book, "'Til Faith Do Us Part: How Interfaith Marriage is... more »

"Who Are THE Chareidim?"
Since someone asked, I'm linking to an answer. ------------------------------ ---- I've noticed that people like to talk about “The Chareidim”. Chareidim do this, Chareidim do that, etc… Chareidim think this, Chareidim believe this, etc… One gets the feeling from this that Chareidim are... more »

Israel: Religious ostracizing now illegal
Quote: City rabbis ostracize woman who dared petition civilian court ..... Then, on Yom Kippur, the beit din issued a "writ of refusal" against the petitioner and her family, effectively ostracizing them from the city of Elad. Placards were hung on the streets, and denizens of the small city were... more »

The Jewish coercion administration
Quote: On Tuesday, Yair Ettinger reported in Haaretz that Bennett, the economy minister who is also the minister of religious services, is establishing a new Jewish Identity Administration whose job will be to instill "Jewish values" in the public. The agency will be headed by chief rabbi of the... more »

Israel: Details of marriage reform
Quote: If you've converted to Judaism and you're from Ashdod, Rishon Lezion or Ashkelon, too bad. There's a good chance you won't be able to register to marry in the city where you live since the local chief rabbi, whose allegiance is to strict rabbis outside the system, does not recognize the... more »

How to post to group
[ Moderator's Comment: There was a list that allowed discussion of moderation but I don't think it still works so discuss 9t on the main group HPG ] Can someone please tell me how to get a posting to the group for discussion that is directly related to the moderation of the group. We have people who are allowed to post(either the moderator[s] let it through or the post is not sent for moderation) items that are insulting. Often times these posts are factually incorrect. However attempts to respond, many times to correct the factual inaccuracies, are not allowed through moderation either because they are deemed insulting (though a lot less insulting than what was allowed to be posted) not relevant to the topic of the group, and/or another reason which is also not actually justified even if technically correct.... more »

Hate Knows No Party
Saw this on an Israeli's blog. Can't attest to its truthfulness, of course, but it can serve as an illustration. ----------------------------- Yesterday morning I saw a Habadnik in a Tel Aviv square offering passerby a chance to put on tefillin. A woman came up to him and yelled: "Go to the army!" He showed her his teudat miluim [army... more »
