The tests were successful.

For those interested, I was using a virtual PC (*) as my work machine
and connecting via VPN to the company I do work for. That freed up my
main OS to receive and send mail and do other things. I had to change
so that my main machine did the VPN connection. That locked my machine
from the being able to send and receive email while connected. Last
night I came up with the idea of what if I used the virtual to send and
receive email? Would it work while I was connected on the VPN. It
turns out that the answer is "yes".

(*) A virtual PC is like a computer within a computer. The main
computer runs that application. The application has its own operating
system and functions like a regular computer even though it is an
application on the main machine. My main machine runs Windows 7
Professional while the virtual PC runs Windows XP.

I have quite a few applications that will not run on Windows 7. Could
you send me instructions by email on how to set up such applications
to run under XP while the XP is running under 7? It would be a great
help.

It is the BEST software ever made. I have a really beefy laptop that
runs windows 7 for the "host" and I have 8 or more
VM machines that run anything from Windows XP to Server 2008R2, and I
even have a domain with a full
Citrix enviroment running provisioning services all on my laptop.

Are these simultaneous with the Windows 7, or are they options to run
one OS at a time?

Simultaneous with Windows 7. You only limitation WRT speed is the
resources of
the host. In my case, I run an I7 chip with 10 gigs of ram and a solid
state hard drive.
I can usually fire up around 4 or 5 at a time with minimal lag. That
is a couple of Server
2008R2 machines and a couple of XP or Win7 machines all at once,plus
Citrix. The only time I have
any noticible lag is when one of the servers is running SQL server as
well. That is a
resource hog, so I generally only fire up on one or two machines when
SQL is involved.
