Whether this music is enjoyable or not is a matter of taste. Whether
it is "Jewish" music is another question. This is Balkan style music,
and many Jews once lived in the Balkan countries. Does that make it
Jewish? Perhaps because Jews often played this kind of music? But in
that case, many Jewish singers and conductors performed music of
Verdi, Puccini, and even Wagner. Does that make those operas "Jewish"
music? Food for thought.

whishing all a good yom tov, and happy cheesecake eating. Hannies,
ever vigilant about my diet, allows me no cheese and no cake, only a
little plain yoghurt.

We'll think about it, Oscar.

I don't know who "Oscar" is, but I'll assume it's somebody you don't
like. And I KNOPW (no need to assume) that you don't like me. But this
is not a forum for discussion of whom you like or don't like. This is
for discussion of Jewish culture..

My position is that what makes music "Jewish" or not Jewish is part ot
Jewish culture, and a discussion of that subject is on topic here. If
you disagree that this is subject for discussion, make your case. If
you think this music is Jewish, make your case. If you think it is not
Jewish, make that case. I myself have no firm opinion of what
constitutes Jewish music, and so I asked the question here, and await
opinions of others. So if you have an opinion, state it and defend it.
If not, KYMS. As for your opinion of me, SIUYA.

I happen to like Oscar. (It is a "Sesame Street" reference.) Also, I
don't "not like you". Neither, though, do I "like you". You are a
poster here with whom I almost always disagree, but that is all. Now
there are many people here with whom I usually agree or usually disagree
and I like them all. There are others here whom I don't like -- to the
point of where I have killfiled their posts. You, Giorgies, are not it
that category.

The comment I made refers to your usual posting content and style and
how it is received by me and many others.

Also, despite its name, SCJM is more that just a forum for discussing
Jewish culture. It is a community of people who more or less are
talking about things Jewish.

As for Jewish music, if it is common among Jews and typically restricted
to Jewish groups, then I call it Jewish music.

I hope that helps.

It's a start. The music in this video is apparently, by your
definition, not entirely "Jewish music", since it fails your second
test. It is evidently not "restricted to Jewish groups", sice the
musician playing the music is higly unlikely to be Jewish.

repeating whishes for good yom tov. Hannies has partially relented; I
will be permitted a cheese blintz tomorrow, albeit baked and not
fried, and accompanied with apple sauce, not sour cream..

I don't know. I didn't listen to the music so I have no comment on that
particular music. I was commenting only on the TONE of YOUR comment.

Also "restricted", as I used it, is not synonymous with "exclusive".
Otherwise, by your interpretation above "Hava Nagila" wouldn't be Jewish
music either. Read "restricted" as "usually found in".

BTW, Oscar is not a person. Oscar is a muppet.
