People often think it's only the system that's at fault (e.g. if school
kids drop out it's the school that failed; it's the teachers who don't
try hard enough etc etc) when in fact it's the substrate (in this case,
patient and patient demographics) that often makes the difference.
Part of the reason why the US healthcare indices as a whole don't fare
well compared to Japan and European countries is the large number of
inner-city blacks/hispanics.
Likewise how many uninsured are actually recent immigrants or even
illegals, as well as the dregs of society? The problem may not actually
be the healthcare "system" itself; but rather the peoples'. If these
people aren't present, healthcare might not be in such dire straits.
And sorry, no. Healthcare is not a "right", any more than food is a
right and somehow government should have universal restaurants so
everyone can afford to frequent restaurants. And this is *especially*
true for a diverse society. That is, in some welfare states like Sweden
it may work well - if the country is relatively homogeneous and people
collectively play by the rules. There is some degree of reciprocity
involved in social/economic transactions and people may just quietly go
along. But in a diverse society where different groups pay different
amounts of taxes (and in fact some are major tax-benefit recipients) and
often have their own MO of gaming the system at the expense of 'the
other', universal healthcare amounts to yet another bureaucratic
resource/welfare-transfer program from the hardworking to the undeserving.

When that "Humbling" feeling hits America, it would be too late.
Trust me on this, we went through this for more than 50 years.

That is one of the reason why I am not living in the States anymore.
Yes, Malaysia sux, but we Chinese know our way around, and no matter
what they did to us, we bounds back, again, and again !
And in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the
Philippines, the attitude of the Chinese is much different from the
attitude of the Chinese in Taiwan or Singapore or even China.
Those of us who not only survive, but actually thrive under pressure
cookers do not tolerate any bullshit from anybody.
This attitude is sorely lacking in Chinese from Singapore, Taiwan,
China and yes, even those in America.
I don't know that much about the Koreans or the Japanese to make any
comment, but even among the Chinese, there indeed ***IS*** a
difference.
