by Richard H. Shulman

RALLIES

From various US Jewish nationalist groups, the invitations to rallies go out
more and more, so consequently rallies draw less and less. Every little group
has its own rally. Inflation in the number of rallies depreciates their
currency.

Many of the calls are last-minute and for minor grievances. Last time I penned
objection to the allies was for those which are vaguely "for Israel," without
defining "for Israel, although some of the most anti-Israel organizations, such
as Americans for Peace Now, call themselves Zionist. They leave people to
assume that one may be pro-Israel and support the collaborationist Israeli
government.

There needs to be coordination and combination among the groups and careful
selection of a major issue and a dramatic slogan. That would give people
something important to rally around. Planning in advance would give people
more time to hear about it and to arrange to attend. A fewer well-attended
rallies may do some good; the numerous sparsely attended ones may do harm by
revealing disinterest.

Organizers cannot take US Jewry for granted anymore, because its commitment to
Israel is declining along with its numbers. Educational groundwork is needed.
Unfortunately, the major Jewish organizations are led by appeasement-minded
people traditionally interested more in their own positions within their
organizations and in relation to the gentile world. So is the government of
Israel, which doesn't understand public relations.

"YOU'RE HISTORY!"

"You're history" means more than that your idea is passé. It implies that
history is meaningless. This attitude is based upon the current consumerist
culture in America. Having no fixed values but selfishness, it values only
what is popular. The people are largely ignorant of history. (They also don't
know much about current events, on which they base their constitutionally
protected but misguided opinions.) Their antagonism towards religion leaves
them without firm values.

It doesn't occur to them that without fixed values and reference points, there
is no sound basis for the values they do have. They are left with political
correctness, which is to say, what is current. In the Arab-Israel conflict,
this plays into the hands of the leftists, who cannot base their demands upon
religious and historical grounds, as can the Jewish nationalists.

International claims are based upon religion, history, ethics, law and upon
might. The Left rejects religion and history. Their view of the law depends
upon their ethics, , which they see ethics as situational. Since they don't
follow the news well, their sense of the situation is distorted. Hence
distorted views.
