Recently, an article has surfaced that is probing the Haider accident.

A few days ago I spoke to a man on the street. He asked if I was
Gerhard Wisnewski. "Yes, I said," why? "" That's why, "he replied, and gave
me a couple of sheets of paper. I looked down on the cover page and read the
words 'repair history". I did not understand. "Ah - and what is it?", I
asked. Then I understood. It was the "repair history" of a famous car. In
2008, it was probably even one of the most famous cars in the world - the VW
Phaeton that belonged to Haider.
That was certainly interesting. We went to the nearest cafe. The man
was a motor vehicle master mechanic, and had printed out the pages from the
VW computer system.
He only told me his first name, and otherwise I have no evidence of
his identity. He spoke in dialect, and had strong hands, he appeared to me
to have the demeanor and characteristics of a master craftsman. As he spoke,
he seemed credible.
We talked for about an hour about the mysterious repair history
report. The report is from about mid-October 2009. It also includes all the
equipment details of the car. Because I am of the opinion that it is of
great public interest, I post it here.
First of all, it is remarkable that the accident in the VW database is
not even mentioned. "It should be noted that there had been a car accident
and the airbags were triggered," said my informant.
When a vehicle is written off as a total loss, that record cannot be
altered in the database. Assuming this report is authentic, the car shows up
in the database as if no accident had happened and showing its next
scheduled VW garage visit to check the oil level.
In other words, "the car shows up in the database as being fine" said
my informant: "as far as Volkswagen is concerned, the vehicle is running
normally."
So, the Phaeton had therefore not been in an accident? Was it the
wrong Phaeton that crashed In Lambichl? The vehicle identification number of
Haiders car, however, agrees with that of the wreck and I was able to see
the car in December 2008: WVWZZZDZ98000334. Does VW just have to remember to
take the car out of the database?
But there are other oddities: According to the report, the vehicle was
brand new. The records show that its manufacturing date was 4 June 2008 it
was delivered on 30 June 2008.
Two days later, on 2 July 2008, the car went to the shop for the first
time, with a mileage of 359 km (223 mi). The records show that the rear
bumper was replaced. "Why was the rear bumper replaced at about 300 km?"
Asked my informant. He added:" Radar electronics are located under the
bumpers. Did they do something with that system? Or more likely, did someone
hit the car and damage it requiring replacement of the rear bumper?"
Almost 2 months later to the day - on 3 September 2008, the car was
back in the workshop, this time with a mileage of 37,006 km (22,994.4 mi).
This means that Haider had driven approximately 37,000 km (22,994 mi)
in two months. That is an average of 600 kilometers (372 mi) per day! What
causes this enormous mileage? If you extrapolate that mileage over the
course of a year you get about 220,000 kilometers (136,700 mi) similar to
what you expect from a taxi cab. Haider would have to have been driving
practically all day every day.
But that's not all. The car went back into the shop for a third time
just a month later on 29 September 2008 - two weeks before the fatal
accident which happened on on 11 October 2008. According to the repair
history of the odometer was still at 37,006. Accordingly during the entire
month, Haider would not have driven even one kilometer.
Did they mistakenly record the mileage from the last repair date?
"Normally, the mileages are meticulously recorded," said my informant. That
makes sense because it is most important means to assess the condition of
the vehicle and secondly, it affects the warranty. Normally precise records
are kept on such conducted on high value vehicles such as the Phaeton.

I also want to indicate the fact, that in Europe, the carshops in
Europe are precisely always document everything about the car. Unlike in
USA, if the person takes his vehicle to a qualified shop, the mechanic must
be qualified by the company (in this case VW) and he can't even touch the
car, without first entering his VW certification ID (which you only can get
if you are certified by the company and you loose it as soon as you quit
your mechanic job) , so the VW can track exactly what was done to the car
and by whom. This serves many purposes. Protects the company of legal action
from the customers, protects the shops from unqualified mechanics, and keeps
the quality at the highest level.
This is German precision, I am sure everyone can agree with the fact,
that Austria/Germany has an obsessed with being precise, regarding paperwork
and records about every single thing you can imagine. Just think of the
Mercedes or BMW..or in this case a super car like the Phaeton, which was
developed as a "rich man's car" with cutting edge technology, and especially
when it comes to safety, theft protection and maximum reliability. If there
is a problem after repair, the car shop can track exactly of who done what
at what time, down to the time of day and second and what was replaced with
what and why.
When you register a car, it's unlike USA. It leave massive amount of
paperwork, and due to the grand theft auto problem, every single item in the
car has a serial number, which is recorded on the paperwork, and every time
a mechanic repairs or replaces anything on the car, it will require
documenting it and registering it with the car company and the mechanic
garage. You just can't cheat this system, if you are a mechanic and you
f..ked up something, it's gonna come out one way or another.
Unlike in USA, you can't just replace your engine or a piece of frame
on your own or with some hacker repair shop throw on a used bumper.
Especially not with brand new and expensive cars, which are still under
factory warranty and the owner exclusively goes for qualified repair shops
with highly trained mechanics.
Now, go read the article again and think.
He died driving drunk, even his friends tried to stop him from leaving but
he insisted on driving home.

There are no radar electronics in the
