Legislating for abortion in Ireland.

We should think twice before legislating for direct killing.

The thing is unconsionable and, legislation or not, people will be
leaving the profession rather than having to comply with the terms of
such legislation.

The issue has been obfuscated in all the discussions, but in reality
it will introduce death row into our hospitals.

We have been thinking twice about it for over 30 years. In the meantime, thousands of Irish women per year have to go abroad, to more modern countries, to get abortions, quite legally. In Ireland, there is no provision for abortion, even in cases where, the majority of people agree it should be allowed. Death row is already in our hospitals. Otherwise, we just export the problem to the UK to do our dirty work.

Should Savita Halappanavar have been given an abortion, the first time she asked for one?
