Hello,

I was wondering if there were any primary school educators on the list, or
people who were familar with grammar school programs in Ireland. I had
been doing some research for a friend on requirements for grammar school
curricula, and had found much on technology initiatives in Irish public
schools, basic information on science and language skill-building from 1st
to 6th Class, but no information whatsoever on art education at the
primary level.

Is there an art education/appreciation requirement or elective in Irish
schools (public, private, or religious) , or in the schools of particular
counties? If so, is this a requirement that someone who was in primary
school say, 15 years ago might have had? Art education and music electives
have been slowly phased out in that timeperiod in American public schools,
and I was wondering if the situation was comparable in Ireland.

Thank you in advance for your help, please respond privately if the
subject is of little interest to the list.

My son (13) at secondary school is taught art, but not music; my daughter (10)
at primary school is taught art and takes music as an option (where she learns
the tin whistle) and also takes private fiddle lessons. We live in Co.
Galway.

I was at school in the six counties where art and music were taught to all; we
were also able to have private music lessons to learn an instrument.

If that helps at all?

Damn, Rome's gone down now too? And me all knickerless and knackered!

Really. :)

I'm not on much, but I'll peek up once in a while when I've something
reasonable to ask. :)

Thanks to all for response, BTW.
