The silver light of the full moon reflected from Lough Foyle is a wondrous
sight - quite unlike anything I've seen before.
Over the last few years, with the help of powerful computers, they have in
fact discovered a strange of new facts about the orbit of the moon which
were unknown when first I became interested in astronomy some 55 years ago.
For instance, because the orbiting moon has a stabilising effect on
regularity of the earth's orbit, it can be argued that without a large
moon present, life would not have developed on earth.
Quite fascinating really. James B. Kaler discribes it very well in his
