Parliament asks foreign ministry for showing reaction against Chirac's menace
Tehran -- Three members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly condemned recent
statements of the French president and called on the Iranian foreign minister to
embark on condemning Chirac's menacing words at international circles, the UN
Security Council in particular.
Representative of Ferdows, Amir Hasan-Khani, representative of Ardestan Tataba'ee
Nezhad, and representative of Taft and Meybod Yahyazadeh demanded the Iranian
minister of foreign affairs to send an official letter to the UN Security Council and
the United Nations Secretary General to condemn the French President's recent
statements underlining use of atomic weapons against any threats posed at his
country.
The three MPs stressed that Chirac's words are in blatant violation of France's
so-called pledge to the dismantlement of atomic bombs and nuclear weapons under
"Article VI" of the NPT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/13_steps
The parliament members also called on Manouchehr Mottaki to send similar letters to
the other international circles, including the Organization of the Islamic Conference
(OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

United Nations Security Council resolution 984
(http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/resolutions/SC95/984SC95.html) is a security assurance
for non-nuclear-weapon states parties to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of
Nuclear Weapons. Among other things, UNSCR 984 "RECOGNIZES" that "in case of
aggression with nuclear weapons or the threat of such aggression against a
non-nuclear-weapon State Party" to the NPT, "the nuclear-weapon State permanent
members of the Security Council will bring the matter immediately to the attention of
the Council and seek Council action to provide, in accordance with the Charter, the
necessary assistance to the State victim".
In other words, Chirac's threatening to use nukes would REQUIRE France to be referred
to UN Security Council and actions against France.
