By Mohammad Gholi Majd
As many as eight to ten million Persians perished because of starvation and
disease during the famine of 1917-1919, making it the greatest calamity in
Persia's history.
Persia was the greatest victim of World War One and also the victim of
possibly the worst genocide of the twentieth century. Using U.S. State
Department records, as well as Persian and British sources, Mohammad Gholi
Majd describes and documents a veritable holocaust about which practically
nothing has been written.
Having described the magnitude of calamity, Majd then investigates its
causes. Food shortages had been initially caused by the devastation of
Persia during 1915-1917, but the famine happened at a time when all of
Persia was under British military occupation. Large-scale purchase of food
in Persia by the British army had greatly lengthened and deepened the
tragedy.
In addition, the British had prevented the importation of food from
Mesopotamia and India, and also from the United States.
While there was ample grain in Mesopotamia and India, Persia in the middle
had starved. In addition to depriving Persia of food, the British had also
deprived Persia of its financial resources, in particular, its oil revenues.
In short, that the British had used famine and genocide as an act of war in
their conquest of Persia there cannot be any possible doubt.
Yet practically nothing is known or written on this subject. It must be
considered as one of the best-kept secrets of all time.

Iran was non-aligned in the War, but was trampled on because she was
weak.
Therefore, the lesson is that we need to be well-armed to stop people
kicking us around willy nilly.
In the modern world, this can only be achieved through the acquisition
of nuclear weapons and effective means to deliver their payload.
