Subject: Politics & Religion
This is my first ever post on this net, so please excuse any possible gaffe.

There have been quite a few articles on this net recently about
the links between political parties and religious groups. Most of the
contributers seem quite definite that this is a bad idea. Most have
expressed fervent hopes that  the BJP would get badly thulped in the
forthcoming elections.

I agree. But there is one interesting point. Why does everyone assume that
the Congress or the Janata Dal would be any better? The congress has a pretty
shady record  of communal connivance. VP Singh's Mandal exploits are still
fresh in my memory. Every party in the running is hoping to cash in on the
vote banks  of some community of the other. Why should the BJP be singled out
for attack? At least, they make no bones about their communal colours!

What do you fellows feel about this? Since I do not read the net very often,
I would appreciate it if you would email your comments, if there are any.
Please send them to harik...@uicsltg.csl.uiuc.edu
